Design submitted by Peter from the UK.
Peter says: I was visiting the gym and noticed various posters promoting the 2012 olympic games. The main image associated with the olympics are the olympic rings, a set of interlinked coloured rings. I started thinking that it would be nice to use interlinked rings to tell the time. The result looks similar to the trinity symbol.
Telling the time is very straight forward, the time is displayed via three viewing windows, the top ring displays the hours .
The minutes are displayed by the two lower rings, the left ring shows 10 minutes increments and the right shows single minutes.
The watch is based on an analogue movement, ideally a jump hour type so that the time is always clear displayed by the viewing windows. The outer glass of the viewing windows double as touch sensitive controls for the settings, modes and illumination.
This design combines traditional elements with a contemporary design, which hopefully will give it universal appeal. The proportions should suit the majority of wrist sizes. The sculptured form should attract those who like something out of the norm.
The means of displaying the time is novel but easily recognised an intuitive. The rings would be powered by a traditional analogue movement which hopefully adds a little realism to the design and a hint of produce-ability.
There is an animation of the watch in action [5MB]

I’ll take three, in black. 😀

I am a huge fan of ‘different’ watches, but this one has really caught my attention. I think the design looks great, a good price is great but I would prefere quality over price, a watch of that caliber deserves to be made to the highest standard. I can’t wait to see Peters next design.

Im glad you like it Rachid, yeah probably not the easiest watch to produce but hopefully will appeal enought for TF to try. I decided to use the three external parts of the viewing windows as controls. Again I dont know if this would be doable. I would be happy to see a conventional crown on the side if it aided production.
Thanks for the comment and the stars Rachid! 😀

You may be right Yoann, its definatley pushing the boundry of what TF could make. Its doable I think but whether it could be packaged small enough is anyones guess. Lets hope they at least look into it!

man, I want one to. At least one. It looks like turbillon complication or something. very nice, 5 stars and yes.

I think it could ba achieved with a regular analogue movement and a gearbox splitting the three drives (hours and two groups of mins) with a drive gear for each ring. Sounds complicated but Im sure for a maker of analogue movements would be pretty straight forward. Thanks for the vote and the stars Gabriel! 😀

Very nice design. Reminiscent of a watch that would be a lot more expensive. Very interested in this. Bought my son a TF watch for Christmas and it hasn’t left his wrist, he loves it, so if you can do these to the same quality, count me in, I need a new watch, and think I have just found the one. Worth waiting for, but dont make me wait too long. 😉

Great design, about time I see something here on the blog that is different and great. I’ve been keeping track of designs here but this is your best. I must say that the mechanism should be devoted to a complication watch with a tourbillon. In such case, you should take this design to URWERK instead as they are the ones to make very highly delicate but extravagent watches. This watch as a Tokyo Flash would be wasting its potential as a true mechanical tourbillon watch. Pete, I worked with Swiss Watch companies for designing, but this is a great concept that should be brought up to higher ups. I like how there is no knobs on the watch to adjust the time, seems like its adjusted by a touch sensor maybe on the three edges. You should experiment with different band shapes too. Keep it up, doors are always open.

Hi Tachyon,
Im glad you like this design. I have tried to do quite a selection of designs/concepts in the hope that the odd one will please the majority/right people. There are quite a few that havent yet made it onto the blog. Hopefully there are a few that will do as well as tricircle had done (so far). Yeah this design would probably suit URWERK or similar. If TF didnt want this design I would be more than happy for such companies to contact me if they were interested in it. Thanks for the feedback and the comment Tachyon! 😀

Hey, that watch looks Bad-F*cking-Ass. Each time I look at it, it always reminds me of some kind of luxury watch that I have heard of somewhere, I don’t know. You could have renamed this design “Trinity” because the pattern that the three circles make resembles the Trinity a little bit. And a limited edition version of the watch might be good (Gold-plated rings, glowing numbers just so you don’t have to turn the light on in the dark, whatever.) Just think what makes a limited edition watch unique and special.
LikeLike
Im glag you like it Maek, Yeah this design lends it self to different materials and finishes and would hopefully look really expensive and suite special editions etc. Yeah I thouht about Trinity as a name but decided on tricircle, seemed more fun at the time. Thanks for the feedback and the Bad Ass Comment Maek! 😀

Hey, thanks for the reply, man. You goin’ to post a GIF of how the thing is supposed to move? I already know how it is the movement is going to work, but I just want to see what the movement look like. And maybe experiment a little more on the design… Wait… It already looks perfect! ^∀^

Your very welcome! I like to answer all the comments my designs recieve, its the least I can do when people take the time. Yeah I did a very basic animation (Im pretty new to gif animations) and submitted it at the same time as the images. Frustratingly it hasn’t been added to this entry. I have since re-submitted a slightly shorter version just in case the original was too large (file size wise) and that hasnt been added either but if you click on this link you can see the uploaded version:
