An LED Watch Design For Steampunk Hypnotists

Another inspiring concept from Logan here. It’s so simple, when we first saw it, we weren’t sure if it had enough elements to display the time – it appears to be one long spiral. But read on!

Another inspiring concept from Logan here. It’s so simple, when we first saw it, we weren’t sure if it had enough elements to display the time – it appears to be one long spiral. But read on!

Logan says that this concept “Considers simple shapes that are not used in watches, the occurrence of spirals in nature, and the echo of a traditional watch’s spring. The time is shown in three stages: 12 segments to count hours 1-12 as the continuous growing spiral. It’s easy to read by noting position of spiral’s tail. So the animation shows hours first, then groups of tens of minutes, then single minutes. Zero is displayed by illuminating only the outermost piece.  Mode selection controls the animation and other hypnotic effects.”

“People are inspired by the mathematical wonders of natural objects. If this concept was made into a stopwatch, it could appeal to steampunk hypnotists! A simple concept that balances readability with beauty, in a compact package. A natural for animated effects. The spiral shape is uncommon.”

We are impressed by the unusual theme and color scheme and we are in agreement that it’s a great balance between readability and beauty. It would make a great talking point. Be careful not to swing it when showing it to people though – you may hypnotise them!

  1. I can’t understand how to tell the time on this one. I see the first one has 3 segments but the next one has 7, but says 5. Also how do you keep track as you spiral in 4-5 layers? hmmm.
