RingSix – E-ink Analog Watch Design

Design submitted by Cory from the USA.

Cory says: While toying with an interesting take on an analog design, I thought of an interesting way to make use of E-ink technology. The RingSix was the result.

The circle in the middle of the display has a capsule shaped minute hand in classic analog time. The hours are displayed as segments of the background, one segment is equal to one hour, up to six. For times over six, an additional ring appears near the center as a +6 indicator. Even hours are displayed vertically, odd are displayed horizontally.

Tokyoflash fans who like analog designs may find this one appealing, as well as those who enjoy bracelet style watches that seamlessly transition from the watchband to the case.

The line which the links draw around the band continues partway through the case, and creates a nice asymmetrical feel to the aesthetics. The case mirrors the capsule shaped minute hand with similar elements in both the buttons, and the geometry where the band attaches.

  1. It’s difficult to understand, especially to guy who lazy to read manual like me, so I’ll just terribly sorry to skip with the display. Now the watch design, I like it, it is rounding edgy with some LEGO-ish element. IMHO, the watch would be more classy looking with white acetate, or silver color with leather strap. There’s no reason to rate less than 5* for this rendering result and mainstream antagonist display. See you in Vegas!

  2. Thanks for adding RingSix to the blog, TFJ!

@Dzign Thanks, mate! Love it always making me smile!

@Firdaus: See you in vegas indeed, heh. I guess you wouldn’t be buying the more complicated designs then, eh? Oh well, thanks for the vote πŸ™‚

    • more complicated designs = referring to complicated time telling mechanism, but complicated watch design is fine πŸ˜‰

  3. Looks good! I like the lateral clamps (if that’s even the word) that hold the display and the straps. Oh, divisions to tell the hours? Nice nice! As for the +6h ring, I maybe had tried to keep the stripes, even for the higher amount of hours and then add a counting helper… a little thingy after each third stripe. The ring could be used for am/pm indication. But aside from this, it’s a cool concept that combines analog with digital with a cool slightly retro screen theme. Good luck Cory!!

  4. The time telling is tricky at first but I soon got the hang of it. The case and strap are very clean and stylish. I would consider buying this! 5/Y best of luck! πŸ˜€

  5. This one seems to be very polarizing, I feel like in that aspect it’s a success. Love it or hate it, I like these reactions better than indifference. Thanks for the commentary, folks!

  6. The idea is nice. However, I would prefer if the hours lines would always be vertical or horizontal, and not constantly switching. Some indicators would be nice. I hate the look of the case. I like the idea of a second ring for the + 6 hours.
