Lloyd says: “This watch design is based on one of my puzzle ideas and, although it looks baffling initially, is actually incredibly easy to understand. It is called “Domino FX” because of the 4 domino-like figures in the display. However, these are not really dominoes, but digital 8s with up to 7 spots arranged inside each.

Peter says: “I was driving in my car and I noticed a trend with modern cars to have strip LED tail lights and running lights (halo style lights). This got me thinking about digits being displayed in thin strip light shapes. I then imagined these forms extruded and metallic and ended up with this watch design. Continue reading

This mechanical watch design would require a large case and a reliable locking mechanism to ensure the cylinders lock on to the correct time. Three cylinders would rotate to reveal the time by digits (hours, 10 minute group and single minutes). A steampunkesque concept that would look incredible on your wrist.

Heather says: I was sketching digits that appeared to be folded over two faces of a cube, when it occurred to me that they would look even more interesting if one face showed a positive display of the digit, while the other showed a negative one. The display is “TWOFOLD”. Continue reading

Lloyd says: This watch design is called “Tsumu” after the Japanese word meaning “to stack”.
Instead of having 4 relatively small digits displayed beside each other, as with conventional digital watches, I thought it might be fun to make them much larger and of different shades, colours and thicknesses and stacked on top of each other so that, while they might still be easily recognizable to the initiated, they might just seem like a meaningless array of colourful shapes to everyone else. That said, the time and date can be displayed as an animation by pressing the appropriate button twice, so that the digits are revealed one after another in order from the bottom to the top.

Peter says: The inspiration for this concept is based on the old mobile phone game “Snake”.The premiss for the game: you control a snake, around the screen pixel blocks appear which you try to intercept. As your snake eats the blocks the snake gets longer and longer.
The game is over when you run into your own tail or the edges of the screen.

Anders says: This concept sprung from my thoughts on how to make a highly customisable watch with a feasible circular display. I wanted to get away from the rectangularity of LCD, TFT and the like. Cory says: Circles are typical aspects of most timepieces. Using ovals seems more chic. I wanted to create a mirrored LCD watch with an angular case, and very futuristic, organic arc as its read out.

Heather & Sam say: Tenji (点時) is Japanese and can be translated to “dotted time”. The basic idea is using classic digits and replacing each horizontal line segment by a dot. Sam and Heather had a collaboration before and after sharing some thoughts about the basic idea, another collaboration was born.

Sam says: This project ran under the working title “chameleon” just like my Canvas watch concept did. I have fun, creating adaptable concepts. It’s a contemporary feature because it’s fun to customise. Canvas was a relatively high tech version of the chameleon idea. This watch – Inch – is a haptical and simple version. One inch, that is the width of a strap in any flexible material which you can stick into the watch and therefore adapting it to your taste.
