This is another beautifully presented idea, the design shows hours 1-12 on the left, five minute groups on the lower right and four single LEDs on the upper right block. Patrick’s says his latest concept is ideal for both women and men and is the first LED watch he’s seen that opens. “Shinjugai” in Japanese literally translates as “shell that makes a pearl” which echoes the fact that the top of the watch opens up like a shell to release the time… that is the pearl. Anders says: “This idea is based on the concept of distribution. Each element of the watch is separate and communicates with the others wirelessly. The components are a ‘CPU’ placed at the wrist, a display on the back of the hand and a pair of buttons on the index finger.

Inspired by subpixels, this watch design divides a segmented digit into red, green, and blue horizontal stripes, and uses the different colors to show hours (red), tens of minutes (green), and single minutes (blue). In this way, the entire time is shown in the space of one digit. Continue reading

Sam came up with the idea of a 12-5-9 watch with all the time telling LEDs placed on one single circle. If it is 1:00 there is only one light that fills the whole circle. If it is 1:23, there are six lights (one for the hours, 2 for the minutes x10, and three for the minutes x1). Continue reading
