Code Breaker LED Watch Design

A new wrist watch concept from the Tokyoflash Design Studio. With a square case and circular display, this concept would be ideal for people who like both square and round watches. The face of the watch has what looks like a bezel with embossed digits – reminiscent of a combination lock. Maybe if the bezel worked, it could perform a unique function!

The stainless steel design features green LEDs and the time can be read simply – hours across the upper window, groups of five minutes and four single minutes in the lower window. The spaces showing the current units of time. How do you feel about this concept design? Do you like the color combination and the shape?

Place Your Bets On Casino Watch Design

Akinori-san has upped the stakes with this watch design with a Casino theme. The display uses either a miniature colour LCD or e-paper to represent detailed graphics as if you were actually sat at the poker table. The cards & chips you have are used to represent the time. The design explains that cards 1 (ace) to 10 are used for hours, & then Jack for 11. 12 o’clock would be either Joker or King depending on AM or PM. I suppose also diamonds or clubs could be used for AM/PM during other hours. The minutes are shown by the number of face-down cards in your hand & your remaining chips.

A Unisex Concept Watch With Cryptic Etching

Heather says: “This is a unisex design for a wrist watch. It is called “Boxed In”. When the time is not displayed, the etched design is still pleasing to the eye. The button in the center will activate the time display through LEDs. The center design determines the hour. The boxes at the top and bottom determine the minutes.”

The concept designs we’re receiving are really creative! Heather’s concept is designed for guys and girls and uses simple lines and squares to show the time. The layout of the shapes on the screen are very cool – like a birds eye view of a pyramid perhaps. It looks as difficult to read as hieroglyphs but like most concepts here, when you know how and have had a bit of practice you can read the time instantly. Just take a look at the explanation below.

線と箱だけで構成されたシンプルなインターフェイスは男女問わず使用できます。インターフェイスのレイアウトはバードアイビューでピラミッドを見たようにクールです。それらは一見すると、象形文字のように読みづらそうですが、少し練習して慣れれば、簡単に読み解くことが出来るでしょう。詳しくは下図をご覧ください。

Night Vision Key Chain Concept

A new concept from the Tokyoflash Design Studio, this time an adaptation of the Night Vision concept. This is a great alternative to wearing a watch in the traditional manner. The image below shows the time piece attached to a key ring but this is a concept that would also look great on a key chain or worn on a chain like a pocket watch. This design has blue LEDs, rather than green in the previous design. Do you have an LED color preference?

The shape of this concept is unusual but is definitely original. As you can see, the time can be read at a glance; hours around the edge of the hexagonal shape, the gap in the lights showing the hour. Digital minutes in the center.

時刻の読み方はとても簡単です。六角形の外周に沿ってレイアウトされた12個のLEDはそれぞれ時間を表示します。アナログ時計と同様の位置にレイアウトされているので一目で時間が読めます。また、その内側にはデジタルで分が表示されます。

Time Flies LED Pocket Watch

Garett says: “These are two pocket watch designs. The first is a simple dartboard style design. Lights illuminate the display as time goes by. The second design is has more of a spiral display.”

I think this maybe our first submission of a pocket watch and we have two variations here; one with a more organic look, the other being more futuristic or maze like. I think the maze looking one may be a bit hard to read the hours on. Unless different colors were used or you may mistake the layer. This may be a good thing if you want the sensation of being drunk whilst looking at the time. It does look very cryptic.

The other more organic design is very easy to read the time on. It reminds me of a flower a bit, not sure how other people feel? Could make the design more directed to women perhaps. Tell us your thoughts on this LED pocket watch.

これらは2つの提案は、ポケットウォッチでは初のコンセプトだと思います。1つはオーガニックな外観で、もう1つはフューチャリスティックな外観。迷路のようなインターフェイスを持ったタイプは、時間の部分が少し読みづらいかもしれません。異なる色で表示すればもっと簡単に読めるかもしれませんが、時間を読む事を楽しむには、これぐらいミステリアスほうがいいかもしれません。

オーガニックな形状をしたタイプは、時間の読み方が簡単です。私には花のようにも見えるインターフェイスですが、みなさんはどのように感じられるでしょうか。このデザインは女性向きかもしれません。みなさんのご意見をお待ちしております。

NEMOTO Vibration watch

Nemoto san says: “This is a minimalist watch design. As a result, the time does not appear at all. The time is communicated through vibration (Morse code). However, it is difficult to adjust the time so a radio clock function would be integrated.”

Here is a great idea that I haven’t yet seen produced and is worth discussing – the NEMOTO vibration watch. Designs have been done for blind people in the past, usually talking watches, and even some braille watch designs have surfaced over the years, but this is the first time I have seen the time done using vibration. Really thinking outside of the box.

今まで見た事のないような、このすばらしいアイデアは検討する価値があると思います。 過去には、視覚に障害を持った方の為の時計として、音で時刻を知らせるものや、点字の方法を利用したものがありましたが、バイブレーションで時刻を伝える方式はこれが初めてだと思います。

Two Sided Triangle LED Watch

Stéphane says: “12 and 9 are multiples of 3 which is why i’m going for the triangular shape. I’m going more for fashion appeal rather than for technical appeal. I’ve tried to respect the symmetry of the watch.”

This two sided LED watch looks very different and is focussed on being more of a fashion accessory – that’s what this design is about. Having fun with the shape and allowing the consumer to add fashion accessories will the give this design a personalized look. Love it or hate it you be the judge. We think it’s just plain fun, and that is what this design is all about!

DK02 LCD Watch

Lorenzo says: “As graphic designer I play with shapes and colors every day. The concept of this watch is intended to create abstract shapes with numbers and fonts. There is just a grid where hours and minutes are merged. It’s a minimal design in its shape, layout and functionality, in fact there is no AM and PM, just two colors, no date.”

Tokyoflash says: Here is a perfect example of how to make the display look unreadable to the untrained eye giving the appearance of something quite alien. We really like the 45 cuts on the corners creating a futuristic look. I think it would work best as an LCD watch as there are many segments and need to be close together to keep it’s appeal.

以下はTokyoflashのコメントです。この作品は、独創的でありながら、シンプルで読みやすいという、インターフェイスデザインに関するとてもよい提案だと思います。45°にカットされた表示部分がシャープな印象を与え、よりフューチャリスティックなイメージを感じさせてくれます。これらは、表示デバイスにLCDパネルを使用することで、忠実に再現することが可能だと思います。

Asymmetrical Alien Communicator Concept Watch

Here’s what Maciej says about his unique concept: “An asymmetric watch design that is simple, modern & clean. Inspired by a sci-fi computer interface. 12 LEDs on left represent hours, 10 LEDs in the center represent 10 minute group, and 9 LEDs on the right represent single minutes.”

A very striking look to this watch design by Maciej. Black and green together just have to be alien don’t they? Could be a countdown device for self-destruct, a cryptic communicator, some kind of analysing device – my last guess would be a wrist watch. It’s nice to see all these community designs pouring in: people getting involved & enjoying the creativity! What are your thoughts on this watch design?

Futuristic GPS Watch – Designed For Space Travelers

Vincent says: “A wide watch, the Yajirushi (Arrow) comes in two styles: Fire (brushed brass color finish) & Ice (brushed slate/steel color). Offering two visual styles for displaying the time, this watch attempts to evoke a worn futuristic aesthetic. The arrow-shaped case and curved elements juxtapose a space-age vibe with the worn, comfortable feel of a leather, cuff-style band featuring a double buckle.”

 

“I included a “dream feature” that allows the wearer to lock a GPS location into memory (or sync with another Yajirushi watch) and point back to that stored location or source. Find your parked car or your friend with a button push.”

このデザインは「矢印」をモチーフにした幅広タイプの形状で、2つのスタイルが存在します。それは、ヘアラインを施した、真鍮製の「炎」と、ステンレス製の「氷」です。2つのスタイルでフューチャリスティックな美的感覚を呼び起こそうとしています。弓の形状をしたケースとレザーのストラップのコンビネーションは、宇宙時代の先進的なイメージだけではなく、快適な装着感をもたらします。また、幅広タイプのストラップには、ダブルバックルが採用されています。

 

この時計にはGPS機能が内蔵されており、現在地を記録することができます。また、ボタンを押すだけでほかの時計と同期したり、駐車した車を探したり、友人を探したりすることもできます。
