Czarina says: I was actually in the middle of researching Kisai’s product line for a school project when I learned that some of the watches were made by fans. Inspired, I started coming up with my own space themed designs, until I finally decided that “Orion” best represented my personal style.

“Orion” is a futuristic design, with a kiss of classic. Starting out, I knew that I wanted to go with a sci-fi theme, but I also didn’t want to lose the charm of reading an analog watch either, so I went with using stars as my time markers (using Orion’s Belt immediately came to mind after that).

Reading the watch is simple: At the standby position, all three stars are lined up at 12:00 (to look like Orion’s Belt). When activated via touch screen, the stars begin to orbit independently, each one representing a unit of time (minutes, hours). What the current time is is defined by where the stars land after the watch has been activated. After a few seconds, the stars reverse orbit back to the original standby position.

The outer star represents minutes in groups of five (5, 10, 15, etc). The middle star, hours. And the inner star for 1 to 4 additional minutes (Combine the two minute stars to get the exact minute time).

I would imagine this watch appealing to people who would want to embrace their inner space detective (guilty, haha), or simply to someone that’s looking for a unique piece to supplement their personal style.

“Orion” offers a straightforward and effective approach to reading time without abandoning curiosity. With its unique minimal design, it offers a lot of room for interpretation, opening itself up to a wider audience, with a large variety of personalities.

      First time creating a gif, but this better illustrates what I had in mind in terms of how the stars would behave (starts at default 12:00 position; when activated, the stars fly quickly but land softly on current time; flies back to 12:00 until it is activated again).       Originally, the stars were to travel on an arced path to the current time, but I changed it to follow a more linear path. With this route, the design may be able to work on both round and square faces.

  11. any chance you could incorporate AM/PM (maybe with a dot in the center for PM when on) and Date (no suggestions on how to make that happen in this design). Overall very interesting design.
