Arctime Challenges Your Pattern Recognition Skills

Logan describes his “Arctime” watch design as a “Dissection of the clock into 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 arcs, fit compactly into a square. Each arc has three segments not shared by other arcs, which are blue to indicate hours, yellow to indicate groups of 5 minutes, or green when an overlap is necessary to tell the time. The four small segments where the arcs intersect indicate single minutes, and their color can always be chosen (blue, green, or yellow) to be different than the hour and 5-minute segments.”

The method of telling the time is solid & logical but requires you learn the patterns & colours to decipher it. It’s definitely one of the more complex methods and we know from experience that that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Many Tokyoflash customers prefer displays that are totally unreadable except to the trained eye & require a certain amount of skill to get used to. Other people prefer something that doesnt take too much brain power, but still has an element of the unusual.

We’d love to hear your comments on this one & how you feel about the reading the time method and the patterns that this watch creates. That’s quite an interesting part of it, especially with the overlapping blue/yellow turning to green, the pattern is always going to be shifting dramatically from hour to hour.

OK here is what I think, since I am the first to post here. Logan has obviously spent a lot of time coming up with this layout. Looks like quite a few hours. He really made this as an art form and the thought behind this madness is quite amazing. The outlook as well is very eye catching. Now here is the down side. Man is it hard to tell the time on that thing! I think you will loose a lot of interest to less intelligent people like myself where I am only willing to work so hard to get that end result of THE TIME. So I would say this is much more an art piece than a time piece and an art piece for intelligent people only. 🙂 I think it is a nice alternative to the other postings.

Awesome watch, I like it. Takes a few minutes to begin recognizing the time though. I like the concept but i think i’m more of a round watch guy.

Yes, this is a very thought provoking design, kind of mathematical or scientific in the way that the lines and shapes all meet up. It’s not easy to read on first glance but i’m sure it would come quickly after wearing it for a while. Love the overall shape and color combination. This one’s not for me but I still love the thought that has gone into a beautiful display.
