Sam says: The idea for a pixely display came while working on another watch. I like pixels so I developed a display, that shows time and date with low resolution numbers.

Ignacio says: Curiously, I had a pencil which projected three shadows. That inspired me for a design that, after modification, resulted in this design (which is quite different, the original design consisting of circles).
Design submitted by Anders from Sweden.
Anders says: I was trying to find something new, thinking about ratios of rotation for each hand. An image of three sprockets came to mind, each with a ratio of 60:61 relative to the one before. Thus the minute hand rotates one revolution more than the second hand every minute.

At Tokyoflash this design got us thinking. Its a simple idea, but we think it would be popular with anyone studying science especially Chemistry of course. In the past we have had a few watches that really grabbed the attention of a certain group. For example, the Morse Code watch was very popular with Radio enthusiasts.
A new concept from the Tokyoflash Design Studio.
An original concept watch design that uses an e-paper display to present the time. The overall appearance of the watch is pure and simple. The white block in the centre of the screen display the time in binary (hours 1, 2, 4, 8 on the top row and minutes 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 on the bottom two rows). Combinations of these numbers indicate the time. For example, if the 8 hour light was out and the 1 and 2 minute lights were out, the time would be 8:03. Continue reading

The main principles of this watch design are the easy readability and high resistance level. The input of data to display other than time and date comes from the RF signaler mounted on the bike and from the integrated pulse sensor. Continue reading

Sam says: “Two things guided me to make this watch design. The first thing was the idea to make a wrist watch that the wearer can adapt as they please. The second thing was, I thought about why should one use e-paper for a watch? It is just black and white, has no background light and doesn’t look spectacular at all. The big benefit is, it can show anything you want (within the restriction, e-paper has) and the black-white is pretty artistic actually, so it was the perfect display type for my idea. And the word “spectacular” is subjective, you decide how the display on your watch looks! This watch is your canvas… Continue reading

Sam says: “I wanted to make a single handed analog watch with 24h display. That’s not brand-new? That’s right. But this watch shows each minute as clear as if it is a traditional analog watch display. Continue reading
