Lloyd & Peter say: We thought it would be amusing to create a watch that doesn’t actually display the time or date. That’s why this concept design is called “Timeout”.

Sam says: The inspiration for this concept comes from barcodes. My idea was to use a barcode not just as stylish display element but to tell the time in a way, the wearer can actually decipher. In the industry next to the bars also the gaps between them contain information. This watch concept uses this principle. Continue reading

DR is an always on LCD watch design with a geeky donut shape that tells time in spiraling HH:MM digit steps!(see the picture for visual example).

Laszlo says: This LCD watch concept use Lenticular FX to present the time.
Lenticular: as specially prepared graphics that are designed to work together with a lenticular lens to allow the viewer to see different images depending on the angle at which they view it.

Heather & Sam say: The MERGE concept is based on separating the horizontal segments of digits from the vertical segments. Lloyd says: This concept LCD watch design uses the shape of a butterfly to display the time and date, hence it’s name “Chou”, which is Japanese for ‘butterfly’.

Heather says: After designing the digits for my n-gon display concept, I found that I could make digits similar to those that would stack well, since they have no middle.
I thought it would be fun to have the time read from the inside-out, since it allows a changing look to the display every minute, and because it allows for a descriptive and catchy name, “Inside-out”. Continue reading
