Two Sided Triangle LED Watch

Stéphane says: “12 and 9 are multiples of 3 which is why i’m going for the triangular shape. I’m going more for fashion appeal rather than for technical appeal. I’ve tried to respect the symmetry of the watch.”

This two sided LED watch looks very different and is focussed on being more of a fashion accessory – that’s what this design is about. Having fun with the shape and allowing the consumer to add fashion accessories will the give this design a personalized look. Love it or hate it you be the judge. We think it’s just plain fun, and that is what this design is all about!

DK02 LCD Watch

Lorenzo says: “As graphic designer I play with shapes and colors every day. The concept of this watch is intended to create abstract shapes with numbers and fonts. There is just a grid where hours and minutes are merged. It’s a minimal design in its shape, layout and functionality, in fact there is no AM and PM, just two colors, no date.”

Tokyoflash says: Here is a perfect example of how to make the display look unreadable to the untrained eye giving the appearance of something quite alien. We really like the 45 cuts on the corners creating a futuristic look. I think it would work best as an LCD watch as there are many segments and need to be close together to keep it’s appeal.

以下はTokyoflashのコメントです。この作品は、独創的でありながら、シンプルで読みやすいという、インターフェイスデザインに関するとてもよい提案だと思います。45°にカットされた表示部分がシャープな印象を与え、よりフューチャリスティックなイメージを感じさせてくれます。これらは、表示デバイスにLCDパネルを使用することで、忠実に再現することが可能だと思います。

Asymmetrical Alien Communicator Concept Watch

Here’s what Maciej says about his unique concept: “An asymmetric watch design that is simple, modern & clean. Inspired by a sci-fi computer interface. 12 LEDs on left represent hours, 10 LEDs in the center represent 10 minute group, and 9 LEDs on the right represent single minutes.”

A very striking look to this watch design by Maciej. Black and green together just have to be alien don’t they? Could be a countdown device for self-destruct, a cryptic communicator, some kind of analysing device – my last guess would be a wrist watch. It’s nice to see all these community designs pouring in: people getting involved & enjoying the creativity! What are your thoughts on this watch design?

Magnetic Liquid Design Tells The Time

I don’t think we have ever seen anything like this before – a very imaginative use of science. Here’s what Karim says about his design:

“The watch runs with ferrofluid, a very sensitive magnetic liquid. The hidden needles reflects the shape of the gears. They are a tribute to mechanical watches. A Watch Design That Uses Words Instead of Numbers

Tokyoflash Says: This watch design is in fact very simple to read at a glance – when you know how. We like that the LEDs light up the individual words in order so that you can follow the written numbers to calculate the time. Maybe it would be fun to have some different typefaces or even different LED colors to indicate hours, groups of 10 minutes and single minutes.

Water Watch With Accelerometer

Tokyoflash Says: We love the idea of accelerometer in a watch and having liquid graphics sloshing around on your wrist. This idea really has potential! If you splash the display around though, how can you tell the time? Well, im sure there would be some nifty way to keep a marker of some kind – perhaps its oil & water, so the lower level doesn’t slosh too much and the liquid above is just for fun rather than time telling.

The time level could be a physical barrier between the oil & water and when you move the watch around the two liquids bubble into each other, but you can still see the line between them, like a kind of lava lamp snow storm  – lots of possibilities im sure!

以下はTokyoflashのコメントです。加速度センサーと液体をイメージしたインターフェイスの組み合わせはとても面白く、可能性を感じます。ただ、現状のままでは、現在時刻の位置に水位が定まらず、読みづらそうですね。例えば、オイルと水を組み合わせたような、二層の表示にするアイデアはどうでしょうか。下の層は現在時刻を表示したまま、上の層だけ液体のように動くようにすると、この問題は解決できそうです。

VOLTure measures your electric charge.

This concept watch design is inspired by the look of voltmeter. It shows hours 3, 5, 7 and 9 with the dial in the center, and +1, +2 exact hours with the dial in left bottom corner. Minutes are shown simply by small digital display in right bottom corner. When the button on the front of the case is pushed, a brief animation illuminates the display before the time is shown.

Despite the claims of the page title, the watch doesn’t really measure any electric charge, it just looks like it could.

Interesting thought though, how many people would actually be interested in knowing the static charge they build up during the day?

Pulse. For those who need reassuring they are still alive.

The interface on this concept watch design is like the display of an ECG showing electrical activity. The time is shown very simply; hours 1-12 on the top line, 10 minute groups , 10-50 on the center line and single minutes 1-9 on the lower line. The high and low points of each line indicate each hour and minute.

It’s quite a novel idea to apparently be checking your heart rate  when simply glancing at the time. Just remember that at 1:00 AM, its only a watch you are not really about to flatline!

Time Cube watch design

Based on the concept of a 3d cube image within the display, each visible side of the cube shows an element of time. The left section of the blue side shows the first digit of the hour (0, 1 or 2). The second digit of the hour is shown on the top of the cube in yellow (0, 1-9). The two right hand columns on the blue section show the first digit of the minutes (0-5) and the red side shows single minutes 1-9. You can see an example at the bottom that shows 15:55.
