Design submitted by Radu from Romania.
Radu says: “The idea for this watch design came to me when I saw some Christmas lights in a department store being reflected between a glass display case and a mirror. I have wanted for some time to submit a design to the Tokyoflash Design Studio Blog but nothing original enough occurred to me so this was a stroke of good luck.

Design submitted by Lloyd from Australia.
Lloyd says: “This watch design is based on one of my puzzle ideas and, although it looks baffling initially, is actually incredibly easy to understand. It is called “Domino FX” because of the 4 domino-like figures in the display. However, these are not really dominoes, but digital 8s with up to 7 spots arranged inside each.

Design submitted by Peter from the UK.
Peter says: “I was driving in my car and I noticed a trend with modern cars to have strip LED tail lights and running lights (halo style lights). This got me thinking about digits being displayed in thin strip light shapes. I then imagined these forms extruded and metallic and ended up with this watch design. Read the rest of this entry »

(English) Design submitted by Heather from the USA.
Heather says: I was sketching digits that appeared to be folded over two faces of a cube, when it occurred to me that they would look even more interesting if one face showed a positive display of the digit, while the other showed a negative one. The display is “TWOFOLD”. Read the rest of this entry »

(English) Design submitted by Peter from the UK.
Peter says: This is “Glow”, I was trying to come up with an LED watch that didn’t tell the time directly with the LEDs. So I decided it would be nice if you read the time using the light given off by the LEDs. Read the rest of this entry »

Design submitted by Peter from the UK.
Peter says: “I was trying to think of a simple manner of displaying the time based on an existing well know product. Dominoes fitted the bill perfectly. They are internationally recognised, and the dots give a very simple method of displaying the time.

(English) Design submitted by Sam from Germany.
Sam’s initial idea was to create an ever changing display which works with interference (short term change coming from the second hand) and color change (long term change coming from the hour and minute hands). Halftone is actually a technique used in printing. It works like an LED screen – it simulates any color by just using a few. The difference from a LED screen is that it’s not limited to a rectangular grid. The few colors of cyan, magenta, yellow (and black too) are applied in tiny dots. From a certain distance, this dot pattern cannot be seen anymore and the basic colors seem to mix to the final motif. Read the rest of this entry »
