Devindh says: “I studied your existing catalogue of watches and looked at the media coverage (fashion magazines). I combined some of the linear design elements with a bit of glamour, hence the name ‘Tokyo Groove’. Reading the time is easy compared to most of the ideas that have been submitted so far. The watch features a red duotone digital display indicating minutes. 12 ‘cross bars’ are tipped with LED indicators showing the hour numerals. The version shown in the main render is ‘quick read’. A second version replaces the conventional numerals with pure coloured tiles. A different colour is displayed for each hour. This is a design for anybody who likes to be different/unusual. It combines modern styling with some conventional elements giving it a broad appeal.“

This is another unique and intriguing design from Logan.  The concept was inspired by Waclaw Sierpinsk and Logan describes it as “12 triangular segments inside a triangular watch face, as 3 triangular groups of 4 segments.   Top group indicates hours, bottom left group indicates 10-minute groups, bottom right group indicates single minutes”.

A fascinatingly beautiful and biological looking concept from Logan here. He says: “This idea is surprisingly simple to read; there are three segments; hours, 10-minute groups, and single-minutes and one segment of the single-minute shape is used for AM/PM.”

The display is like the structure of DNA with the blue lines showing hours 1-12, groups of 5 minutes in yellow and single minutes with green dots. It would look really bright and energetic with colored LEDs against the black screen. This method of telling the time is particularly logical as the time progresses in one direction and as the time increases the number of lights increases.

Kevin says: “This design is based on a watch I bought from Tokyoflash a few years ago. It’s all about minimalism. The time can be worked out from the bare minimum number of 25 lit or unlit squares arranged into a perfectly square grid.”

This is indeed a beautiful, clean and minimal concept from Kevin. The display looks like a piece of modern art – that would constantly change color as time progresses. With added LED colors, this design could have the appearance of a 70’s dance floor. Which theme do you prefer?

Logan describes his “Arctime” watch design as a “Dissection of the clock into 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 arcs, fit compactly into a square.  Each arc has three segments not shared by other arcs, which are blue to indicate hours, yellow to indicate groups of 5 minutes, or green when an overlap is necessary to tell the time.  The four small segments where the arcs intersect indicate single minutes, and their color can always be chosen (blue, green, or yellow) to be different than the hour and 5-minute segments.”

A hexagonal arrangement of circles with intersections defining segments (innermost segments slightly modified).  12 outermost segments indicate hours, 11 middle segments indicate 5-minute groups, 4 inner segments indicate single minutes.  1 middle segment free for alarm or AM/PM.”

Tokyoflash says: By using a repeated layout of circles the time has been easily divided into a unique time telling layout that looks both mesmerizing as well artistic. Note the segments line up perfectly to where the time would be found on a regular watch. I am sure after a day you would be able to blast off the time in a jiffy. The combination of blue, green and a touch of yellow also goes well in a black case design. This design would be ideal with digital tube LEDs which would create a really vivid look.
