Buckled LED Watch Design

Design submitted by Devindh from UK.

This design is partly inspired by the ‘Tokyoflash Waku’ range and partly inspired by Apple’s integration of LEDs into their products. Devindh says, “I like the way Apple has created micro holes that are very unobtrusive, but allow the LEDs to draw attention once they are lit”.

This concept bridges the gap between jewelry and timepieces in a “buckle style” watch. The hour indicators are micro drilled to form a central focus of the watch. The outer rim divides the minutes into two sets of 30 that are visible through pierced slots. The minutes are etched onto the casing.

Timescale – LED Watch Design in Musical Patterns

Design submitted by David from UK.

David was looking for a minimalist idea that would be simple to read but with a twist. This watch design came up when he saw a trailer on TV for Close Encounters. He combined the idea with tones or notes to get a similar audible effect.

Optical Illusion LED Watch Design

A new concept from the Tokyoflash Design Studio.

This watch design is for you if you like a little challenge.  The time is displayed as an optical illusion – you can train your eyes to see the hidden numbers through the green and black maze.  Just press the button and see the green LEDs animate to light up the whole face and show you time in 4 big digits – no counting required.

Nokta Watch Design – Time in a dot

Design submitted by Salih from Turkey.

One LED dot is all it takes to tell time from this efficiently designed concept. It is a multi-colored LED watch showing 10-minute segments in different colors. The intersecting points between the hours in rows and minutes in columns light up in 6 colors representing each ten minutes. On date mode, all the LEDs light up except the section showing the date.

Tuning Watch – Car Design LED Watch

Design submitted by Patrick from France.

A very interesting and innovative watch design, Patrick describes it as a design that looks like a revamped American car, Calande, from the 50s and 60s.  Not only is the design for car lovers, it has a special mechanism, a sensory flap, that makes this watch handy for drivers on the go.  The time can be activated without releasing the steering wheel.  Convenient?  Read on!

Section – Segmented LED Watch Design

Design submitted by Logan from the USA.

Whoa!  Logan’s ideas are just overflowing!  We have here twelve square segments combined to form a rectangular shaped display.  The LEDs illuminate clockwise from the top left to count 1-12 (all off for 0).  Hours are displayed first, then tens of minutes, and single minutes.

Across Time LED Watch Design

Design submitted by Logan from the USA.

Like Logan’s design, “Arctime”, this watch design is a rearrangement of a traditional watch display brought forward into something futuristic.

We were lost at first on how to read the time but Logan explains it as “Two lines across the watch face tell the time. Imagine the hands of a traditional watch, anchored not at the center of the dial, but at two points on the perimeter. Those hands become LED lines to mark the hours (blue) and 5-minute groups (red). The minute line flashes 1-4 times to indicate times not ending in 0 or 5”. Sounds way too complicated but give it a moment and you’ll see how straightforward it is.
