Patrick says: The “TAG-Watch” is a watch e-paper, with a minimum of elements for read the time.

The “TAG-Watch” is an analog watch e-paper.

A ribbon is held around the dial. The beginning of the ribbon indicates the hours and the end of the ribbon indicates the minutes.

Programming makes it possible to indicate to the center of the dial the hour the minute close or to indicate the date, the alarm or the date of appointment important etc

The “TAG-Watch” is intended to the women and to the men who like simplicity and elegance.

The “TAG-Watch” will astonish by simplicity by its lines, like its facility of reading.

  1. I really like this, and its simplicity, though I think it could go a step further…

    The numerals in the center are ok, but I feel it diminishes the simplicity of the “tape” idea. Perhaps dots, or smaller concentric rings in the center would match the theme a bit better.

    • Hi cortjezter, thank you for your comment which allows me the explanation which follows and your vote.
      The figure in the center is an option of the user, because you can read the hour without this figure, it’s just if you want to have the time to the nearest minute, moreover on the other views, it is not there and you can anyway read the hour.

      • Yes, I understand it is optional.

        It just seems a little visually out of place when it IS visible. I still suggest an alternate method for displaying this extra precision, perhaps even in addition to the numerals (letting the user choose if they want big blocky numbers, or some other simple, visual representation of them).

        Not really a dealbreaker for me, I’d wear it with numbers, without, or with the extra mode I just suggested. Nice work 🙂

  2. I like this time telling method a lot, minimal & really easy – it just looks unusual at first glance. Exactly what TF is about.
    Actually I like the numerals in the centre. They are not always on, so it doesn’t disrupt the regular display, but useful for when you need extra info. It also reminds me of a movie countdown – which suits e-paper in B&W doesn’t it?
    The case & strap need some work to make a little more finished looking, but I am not worrying about that – the display is a solid idea & appealing to me. I would wear this.

    • Thank you Tokyoflash Design Studio, indeed, the figure in the center allows an additional precision, but it is not essential, as the date or another information.
      For the bracelet, please excuse me, it is a solution of facility not to work above (because I prefer the metal bracelets), but obviously it will be necessary to think of it, if this project comes under investigation.

    • I like the entire layout, Patrick. It looks sci-fi with the digit combined with a graphical element. I too thought it looked like a movie countdown, which I based an entire watch concept on btw; I wasn’t happy with the quality of the 2-D graphics though, so I moved on to something else. Now I think I may submit it…

    • An old-time movie reel countdown?

      An intriguing concept to be sure, but I don’t really think that was the concept here; not to speak for Patrick. I think such an idea deserves a more intentional execution.

      Obviously giant numbers contrasts the stark minimalism of the main concept, which some will like and some not; making it optional is one step toward satisfying both camps, but if ever moved forward toward production, I’d recommend a less literal representation of numbers…perhaps something more abstract or visual to match the aesthetic as I mentioned in another reply: as dots, concentric rings, etc.

      • Hi cortjezter, the figures go from 1 to 4 and intringuent the people not initiated with the reading of this project. Would abstract figures be too criptic and would remove the sober side of the tape of reading? It is only my point of view.
        A film countdown reproduces more accurately, would also harm wished sobriety, of this project. I like simple things, I do not necessarily have reason?

  3. I like the simple graphic look and the ease of time telling. My only issue is that the principle has been featured on the blog before. I think TF did a GMTA post showing a few versions a while back, so the simple question (not a simple question to answer) is this version the most production worthy?     • Hi Pete, it is true, there are versions approaching, but with a simple tape without additional graphs explanation to read the hour, I did not see it.
      Ah drat, it is still Sam who struck, he did everything, however I had peeled all Blog, but I did not look at “Great minds think alike.”
      Ah lala, I do not have any more but to cry in my corner.

        Yourversion looks very different so it shouldnt really matter, it only the basic priciple that it shares.

  4. Very nice work Patrick! I really like the clean look (I’ve actually been toying with slightly similar ideas, but hopefully different enough), and I think that if the display always shows the discrete hour and minute (that is, the hour indicator points to for example the ‘3’ position for the whole hour) then you’d only need the hour markers along the edge to be able to tell the time.

      Figures to center clarifies, if the user requests it.
      For cons, the idea already exists, (yes, no indication in the center of the watch), it is an idea of Sam, then I’m sorry and disappointed.

      • It’s not unusual that basic concepts get re-used; I’ve done it and had it done to me, and as long as it’s not clearly an attempt to plagiarize (which TF would probably filter out anyway) I don’t think it should be a problem. Being inspired by each other is one of the good things about this blog, I think.

    I wanted to apologize, to have begun again once again an existing idea, without it to have voluntarily desired (2 times!).
    It is true that my project is e-paper and additional indications are affixed to the center of the dial, but I’m not sure it is enough to be excused?

  9. I think this design is great, Patrick. There may be similar ones, but this uncluttered, simplistic design is very appealing and should be judged for its own merits.
    This case looks fine to me. I would probably prefer a wider strap, but that is a minor detail that TF could work on, if they choose to take this on.

  10. I like the idea. I like using the center for things like alarm on/digital date/pm. I’m not sure about the single digit at the center. I feel like the ribbon should stop at the previous 5th minute mark & use 0 to 4 as +0 to +4.

    • Matt thank you for your suggestion and your vote. All ideas are good to take and study. Normally the figure at the center is an option, because the hour is readable without this function, it provides additional precision not really necessary, as a standard analog watch.
