Peter says: This idea is a variation of a previous design called “supernova“. This version uses a LCD display framed by a castleated bezel that divides the face into hour zones. The centre of the display features mode indicators.

The time is told in 15 minute increments aranged in groups of 4 at the hour positions as per an analogue clock face. At the 12 o’clock position a group of 15 single minutes (+ 3 x 15 minute blocks). These groups are framed and divided by the castleated bezel. The empty centre of the display offers itself nicely to mode, am/pm, alarms, chine and date icons, aswell as branding possibilities.

This design has a technical and industrial look which will mostly appeal to guys of most ages.

That said if the proportions could be kept similar to “Blade” and was available in a range of finishes it may also appeal to the ladies too.

The time telling of this design is away from the norm but intuitive for the majority to understand. The 3D castleated bezel gives the watch a technical industrial look which should help this design stand out from others.

  2. Nice chunky style, I like those 2-tone wedges grasping the dial. It does feel quite mechanical with a touch of sci-fi (stargate?)
    All models look very cool. Well chosen combinations!

    One question: When it gets to 12:01 do we have just have 1 of the single mins lit & nothing else? Wasn’t sure how 12:xx is represented, but I am sure you can explain.

    • Hi Toky, you see the visual side exactly as I do, which is a good sign hehe.
      Your spot on with the 12:01 scenario, there would be just a lonely single minute block on show. Which is partly the reason for the framing of the display so it never looks empty. If the lack of 12:00 indicator was an issue I’m sure one could be added. Cheers for the post and the feedback 😀

  4. Great Design Pete, nice, clever way of displaying the time too. don’t usually like gold watches but this suits the gold/black/red combo

    • Cheers Lewis, Im not usually fan of gold watches myself (not withstanding the gold version of “Blade” of course 😉 )
      but it can have a retro charm when combined with the right colour screen. Glad you likey, cheers for the support sir! 😀

  5. Hi Pete, I love the look “Stargate”. Reading becomes complicated to read bar “minutes x 1” beyond 5 minutes. I’d like a version with “minutes x 1” listed in the center of the watch, for easier reading. For the rest, everything is perfect.

    • The frame around the 15 x 1 minutes could be divided into three groups of 5 if that made time telling easier. Or every 5th block could be a different shape or length, which would have the same effect without significant changes.

  6. A re-used strap, I see…=)

    Solid work, like others have already said the frames add something unique to it but doesn’t complicate the tech. I needed to read the description a couple of times before I got it, but now that I do the display style seems pretty simple. Simple to make and simple to read (once you know how); should be a winner.

    If there’s one detail that seems off it’s the one Patrick mentioned; the single minutes are a bit difficult to count. Maybe a grouping into 5’s would be possible?

    • Yeah a little bit bit of recycling was done here, it seemed to suit the concept so seemed sensible to give it another outing 🙂 Yeah the grouping into 5’s of the single minutes is sensible and would speed up the time telling, so fine point sir! Cheers for the feedback and the support! 😀

  7. I like the 6:07 pic, Pete, as it looks like a light lime green instead of the typical bright. That looks good with the silver! And I like the colors in the pic below that, 2:03. Looks very Chinese to me. That is actually a gold watch I WOULD wear, and I never care for gold. I love the gripping segments. Good luck!

    • I couldn’t ask for better endorsement than that! The pale green is an attempt to simulate the traditional grey-green natural LCD colour, with the bright green for when the backlight is on. Cheers for the feedback and the luck sir! 😀

    • Yeah the supernova version was certainly visually simpler, although the time telling is very similar. This one has a much more industrial feel. Hopefully one version will tempt TF in the future 😀

    Looks good. The ‘Stargate’ effect is very appealling.
    Comments have already highlighted the challenge I have with the 14 single minutes and a solution identified, so that’s great. I do worry that the frame surrounding single minutes tapers down and may cause problems reading the smaller numbers, but maybe that’s just my failing.
    Anyway, good luck and 5*/Y.

    • Cheers for the feedback Nev! The window that shows the single minutes could easily be made bigger or less tapered to aid clarity. The only reason it tapers down now is that I tried to use similar angles to the other windows. I’m sure with a few tweaks it could be optimised, cheers again 😀

  11. I love the bezel/display. I like having the inlays in a different color. I like when the light is on. I still like the idea to divide the hour per 4 x 15 min. I like having the 1-14 min in a column, but every 5th should be less wide/thicker/thinner to help the reading. & I LOVE that it’s in LCD!

    I gave 5* & would buy.
