Trylon Analogue with flip-top lid.

Peter says: This is “Trylon Analogue” a back to basics half hunter style analogue disc watch based on my earlier Trylon concept.

The time is told by three discs that show the hours, minutes and seconds in a traditional analogue format. The three elements of time are highlighted by the three windows cut into the Y shape on the flip top lid. Printed markers could also be on the lens for when the lid is open.

Hopefully this concept will appeal to the same people as the other versions have but may also temp hard-core analogue fans that may have dismissed the other versions.

The flip top lid with distinct Y shape in combination with a analogue disc style time telling method separates this design from others.

  1. Trylon is a great concept watch design and looks very cool in analog form. The flip-top lid is a winning feature for sure, even though it may be hard to make.

    Great to see this very futuristic looking watch in analog form especially with the discs. Kisai Uzumaki, which was chosen from the blog to become reality, is the only analog watch available at Tokyoflash.com at the moment so would be interesting to see another in the lineup.

    • Yeah it would be nice to see more analogues on the watches page. I must admit to having a soft spot for them. I think they can look as futuristic as any other time telling method. Cheers for the feedback and posting Toky! 😀

  4. Looks good, Pete.
    It feels a bit 70’s/80’s in technology (I am sure I had a watch that displayed the time like this as a kid), but the presentation is up-to-date. Not sure if I would want to open the lid, unlike the previous versions.
    I would still want to go for the Trylon Lite case with the Trylon display, but this should bring in more followers.

    • I think that analogues can be made to look futuristic even if the tech is old school. I think there is always room for the odd mechanical device. When we are all driving electric cars I think will miss the throb of a petrol engine etc.
      this will hopefully be the last variant of Trylon, I think this particular cat is well and truly skinned lol.

  5. Interesting variation Pete, I too have a soft spot for analogues…

    This almost feels like a Trylon too far, though. I like the flip-top lid (mechanical stuff always make me interested) but in this case opening it doesn’t really add anything like it did with your previous versions. If anything, it makes it more or less impossible to read…

    I think it has potential, and it might be possible to work some magic to add function to the otherwise hidden areas (Date? Moon phase? Alarm?). At present though, it’s not at the top of my list of Trylons…=) Still, good luck with it!

    • I here what your saying, I guess you could describe this as an exploring all avenues exercise. Extra features/information hidden under the lid would help justify it’s being there. A moon-phase element would be nice as I can imagine that being easy to achieve. I don’t know how easy it would be to add date or other info on a disc analogue. Maybe if the controls for adjustment were hidden by the lid it would have more purpose. Fingers crossed TF see potential and feasibility in one of the Trylon variants. Cheers for the feedback sir! 😀

  6. I see this as a excellent alternative analogue disc companion to the Digital version of the Trylon wristwatch.
    However the digital version may have more of realistic chance of construction. 5 Stars.

    • Hey Andrew, Cheers for the mighty fine feedback sir! If this has a less realistic chance of construction then it may well be doomed in that case lol. Feasibility was the stumbling block for the digital version 😀

  7. great design pete, i feel like a fresh pair of eyes on the matter because i never saw the original Trylon designs, regardless its an awesome looking watch. i don’t think cryptic time keeping is a check box for making TF designs it just helps with followers. The form is there and the function is there, what more could you want? The pinnacle of this design would be that the Lid has an epic reveal. this is where it gets difficult because what you’d expect to see under the lid are the components of the mechanism, seen as this is analogue there aren’t components that you’d want to display so the only other option is to display further information like Anders pointed out Date, Alarm, Calander or moon phase.

    equally it would succeed if you just nailed the lid shut and that was that 😀

    • i don’t think people appreciate enough the display of your work either, from a modeller to a modeller its superbly presented. i know how hard it is to make that kind of geometry haha.

        Yeah I agree with you and Anders that it really needs extra features or info under the lid to justify its being there. I
        will have to have a think and see if I can come up with something.
        Cheers for the comments regards modelling and presentation. I think we are probably that spoilt here on the blog with fantastic images and animations that we do take these things for granted. Its cool that the standards are high tho, makes you want to improve and raise your game. Cheers again for the feedback sir! 😀

      • Very true Pete…I remember my first couple of submissions…kinda laughable to be honest lol
        Seeing all the different renderings that this blog has to offer does indeed make you want to improve to stand a chance of being noticed in the crowd.

        I’ll admit that even though this is a nice looking watch, it’s not as good as the LED versions you previously posted. They looked a lot cooler and futuristic. It’ll be hard to add anything else under this lid along with the rotating discs I’d imagine.

        Even so…5* coming your way

      • Cheers Justin, you’ll find you are your own biggest critic when it comes to presentation. As long as the idea is described well enough that’s all that really matters. Even with the slickest graphics and animations people don’t always see the potential of concepts in the same way anyways. A little bit if luck helps too 🙂 cheers for the feedback sir! 😀

    • Thanks a lot Xian, there seem to be two schools of thought for this concept. Simple and sealed or adding additional features to justify the lid. The sealed version is definitely the simplest. But is it interesting enough for the TF catalogue. I guess only time and cruel fate will tell. Cheers for the feedback sir! 😀

  12. I like the display. I like the lid, since we don’t need to open it. (on the revised version of the original, I didn’t like it because it had to be opened to setup the watch)

    I would give a 4 (I think I was to late for it, being really busy lately)
