Parametric: MP3 audio watch with Graphic Equaliser.

Design submitted by Peter from the UK.

Peter says: I was trying to think of ways to make cryptic digits using an LCD display consisting of simple blocks which could be easily animated. A graphic equalizer instantly came to mind.

Now obviously since OTOs release another graphic equalizer watch seems a bit un-necessary but the combining of the digits and the iconic imagery was too much to resist.

The time is very simply told by digits shown in negative by gaps between a lower and upper graphic equalizer arrangement. Various number styles and different information could be described with this method. A reveal mode could be included for when time is of the essence. The display could be inverted and backlit in a variety of colours.

Like OTO the display could be influenced by a microphone when the time is not required.

The watch could also include a built in MP3 player to continue the theme and supply the sounds for the graphic equalizer.

The watch has a MP3 player look to continue the theme which gives the design a clean and intuative feel. The watch should be slim and compact to appeal to the majority of customers.

The combination of the graphic equalizer and time gives the watch an animated display that helps it stand out from others. The sleek and simple look also helps it stand out.

  1. Cool! Nice work Pete, reminds me a bit of some old Sony Ericsson Walkman phones actually. Not a bad thing, I might add…=)

Interesting display, nicely cryptic, and it having a microphone is another nice touch. There’s only one thing that I’d change; the rows of unused segments top and bottom could be reduced by a few (two or three) I think. On the other hand, if the body needs to be that size due to tech constraints then by all means keep them; having a smaller display on a watch the same size would probably look a bit odd…

Best of luck mate, fingers crossed!

    • Hey Anders, you make some fair points 🙂 I must admit to not spending much time on this one, as OTO exists I didn’t want to take ages over something that might be deemed already done. But I figured the time telling method was worth airing. Your right about the display, could easily be less blocks top and bottom, or the numbers could be bigger either way. Cheers for the feedback and vote sir! 😀

      • I think it’s a good thing you made the effort, and not everything has to be worked with a fine-tooth comb…=)

      • Yeah I often think that even if I don’t like an idea its worth submitting, just in case it strikes a cord with TF or fellow blogists! You are very kind sir! 😀

  2. I’m thinking USB-chargeable and could download music to it via the USB for MP3 playback – old school approach, but seems to fit the style.
Probably too close to OTO to get made, which is a great shame, as I really like this. Definitely 5*/Y.

    • Thanks a lot Nev for the feedback and the liking. Yeah probably is a bit too close to OTO. Stranger things have happened lol. Maybe an OTO special edition could incorporate some feature? Cheers again sir! 😀

  3. Holy time, these numbers are cool! So cryptic when you don’t know them yet so simple – perfect balance. I like this barcodish look. The OTO reference is nice and hey, why not. It could be the age of fun watches! Why do the 6,8 and 9 have their small pixels outside the rule? probably looking better this way ^^ I personally like it. Good luck Pete!

    • Thanks a lot Sam, your the one who could have the most reason to dislike so Im glad you could get on board with it! 😀 Regards the 6, 8 and 9 I didn’t want the numbers to be too obvious and also the floating block is like the ones that slowly drop on graphic equalizers in some modes. Seemed appropriate to me at the time anyways lol Cheers for the support sir! 😀

  4. Although OTO is existing Tokyo Flash graphic equalizer watch there is no good reason to say why this awesome concept is any chance of becoming a reality.

  5. Nice looking design there jimminybob! I think the watch needs a mini memory card/mp3 player function built in as you could then utilize the silver circle on the front to hold the play/pause (12 o’clock position) rew/ffwd @ 3-9 o’clock and stop @ 6 o’clock. Maybe even a volume + – on the side and BAM…job done!

  6. The overall look is interesting. I would prefer if the 4 digits where separated. (not have — between 2 #, at the center. It would be 1 2 3 4 & not 1-2-3-4 )
