Elevation: a 3D pixel effect Smart Watch concept

Sam says: This is Elevation, my suggestion for a Bluetooth “Smart Watch” Project.

Time telling.
I chose an LCD display because it’s the best for what I’ve planned. The time is told by four squared numbers  that have been tilted 45∞ and made 3D by giving them a depth. It’s basically an isometrical view of vertically standing number blocks.
The numbers can animate by rising into sight and leaving the display again. Their body lengths can be adjusted from MAXIMUM to ZERO. The latter case shows the mere numbers and is super easy to read.
The tilt angle can be set to -45∞ or +45∞ to have the numbers facing the wearer if the watch is worn on the left or on the right wrist so he/she’s not really forced to look at the display at 0∞ (which is rarely done with any watch actually).

The smart part.
Indicators on the left and right side of the display highlight functions, that are mentioned on the display frame. These indicators follow the 45∞ angle of the time display and blend in stylistically.
On the left side there are suggested ‘smart’ functions. Entering a function makes the display show according information. Since the time telling requires a lot of LCD segments, there is quite some freedom in what else to display for each function. A mere “on” and “off” for bluetooth and sound alert is a piece of cake.
On the right side there are functions MAIL,CALL,CHAT,EVENT and I added MEMO (something like “Grab a new Azuki Coke at Shibuya Eki before meeting Ken”) Whenever something happens in these topics, one up to three indicators appear, telling the wearer, it’s worth to check the phone.

The watch.
I wanted to include three elements and kept the general design pretty minimalistic. These three elements are: a curved lens like on the ONLINE (but less extreme) because it adds a cool dynamic to the watch; the bevelled display frame that fits well into the 3D- and 45∞-topic and then the v-shapes LEDs that are also a part of this topic.

  1. This is a very cool design. I really like how it can connect to the phone and looks great. I think you could make the bezel a nicer font or somehow implement it better. Right now the bezel + font looks a bit cheap and looks like the lettering will fade or rub off over time. Considering how polished the rest of the design looks, that’s the only thing that detracts from the watch. Good work.

  2. Hello, Sam! Glad to see your smart watch design. I like the digits, especially the style in the second-to-last image. Could be interesting to see these digits in non-BT watches, too. I see some of your other designs have been made now, big congrats! Xtal is the gold watch TF needed.

    • Big thank you Logan! Oh yes some of my designs were made. It’s “some” compared to what I actually submitted but “many” cos I could wear a different watch every day in the week hehe.

      Cool you like the digits! Always nice when a concept would work without being smartwatch. I treid to find a segmentation that allows these different displaying styles and some degree of information capability to suit the smart functions.

  3. I’m not really interested in smartwatches, but do think this looks great and should be another winner. I love the time display part and would love to see that on a watch – the last by one image really sealed the deal for me. If this only appears on this smartwatch, I would probably have to buy one anyway. Definitely 5*.

  4. For some strange reasons I am absolutely not interested in smartwatches neither… but this has nothing to do with the quality of your design which is really good.

    I will not buy this watch NOT because I don t like it but only because I am not interested in smart watches.

    By the way, I am the proud owner of the Rorschach Watch which is one of your beautiful designs 🙂 🙂 🙂
    I never get tired of the beauty of the changing patterns of this watch. thanks this great design!

  5. There are some nice ideas and stylistic features on this design that I quite like. The last few images of the 3D numbers looks cool, but for some reason this one doesn’t grab me. I can’t put my finger on why but I’m just not feeling it. I have given it 5* for support but probably wouldn’t buy. Best of luck anyway sir! 😀

      • I don’t really know what it is, I’m just not as excited by this as the majority of your other designs. Like you say maybe it’s too subtle for me, you know I like the “shock and awe” designs 😉
        I think this and maybe two others haven’t done it for me, not bad considering the number of your submissions. Three out of hundreds ain’t bad! 😉

  6. Hi Sam, your work is always impeccable, but the watches with the functions of a smartphone should be very easy to read, in my opinion.

  7. It is interesting I was one of the first to see this design . I remember I was impressed. The first image in blue Lcd above however turns me off but that just that. But the rest of variations especially one in white Lcd are very good. I think this is very good design in category of simply unique. The way you incorporate bluetooth functionalities also clever and looks food. Cheers. 5/Y!
