“Kuranku” watch takes wind-up to a new level.

Patrick says: I was with my cell phone far from an electrical outlet and I said myself: “if my cell phone had a crank to reload it, I would not be deprived.” Tokyoflash manufacture watches out of wooden, then why not with crank?

The “Kuranku-Watch” is an analog watch.

Large playbars are divided into two parts, the part near the center indicate the hours and the outer part and the points refer to the minutes.

There is a battery that keeps the clock, but the LEDs are activated by crank. (in “discrete” mode, activating the LEDs can be made directly by button.)

You can choose a model with all the LEDs of the same color, or have two colors, one for hours and one for minutes.

The “Kuranku-Watch” is designed for men and women relaxed and extroverts.

The “Kuranku-Watch” with its crank will allure the people who want to get noticed in public and show their latest fashionable gadget. (especially in the world of fashion where eccentricity is the key word.)

  1. Love the name! =) Not much about it I don’t like, actually… The styling’s right up my street, and the LEDs are well-proportioned. The quirky detail of the crank really appeals to my mechanical (and to some extent environmental) soft spot.

    I’m not sure how efficient that crank could be for recharging, but every little helps. =) If the display were LCD then the power demands would be even lower…

    One detail which would be nice (and could be implemented with the existing display) would be to have a charge indicator to let the wearer know when it’s time to start cranking, and how much good it’s doing…

    I’m pretty sure one would look a bit odd standing around cranking one’s watch, but that’s a price I’d be willing to pay. I look too odd already to let a little thing like that bother me…=) This might lead to some interesting conversations, too… Great work Patrick!

    • Hi Anders S, I totally agree with what you just said,I also thought of it, but in this case, the crank activates the LED punctually, without reloading truly the watch, because a battery is there for the backup of the hour. If Tokyoflash can use this handle to recharge, it is obviously better!

      • Ah, I see. I missed that sentence when I read the description…

        when I saw it I immediately thought of flashlights and radios I’ve seen that are reloaded by a crank, so I might not have paid full attention…=)

        Fingers crossed it gets made, and toes crossed TF make it crank-reloadable! =)

  2. I have to pretty agree with what Anders wrote. I like the manual aspect and the environmental aspects. The crank idea is certainly a fun and interesting way of doing it, assuming it can be made big enough and robust enough for regular use. Maybe the crank winds a spring which supplies the power.     • Hi Pete, the active crank only LED without reloading the watch, which is why it is discreet.
      By cons, if TF happens to make a watch that can be recharged with a hand crank, it will necessarily be better suited (Pete, have you read the operation of the watch? There is a battery that can completely avoid the use of crank).

      • Ahhhh I see, so the crank is just a method of time activation rather than generating power. That would make it easier to make in that case. 😀

  3. Cool idea, Patrick! Is the idea when you crank it that as the crank aligns with an LED, it would light up, and would fade as it passes by?

      The function that you described likes me well and can belong to various animations suggested.
      Indeed, to each time you turn the crank, the LED ignite and die out, become animated and are stabilized.
      When you do not turn any more, the hour is displayed a few seconds, then dies out.

  4. Hi Patrick! I like the effort you put on making this design. I think they look cool and really tokyoflashy. I, however don’t really fancy on the crank idea, don’t think it any significant. I’ll definitely consider buying analog LEDs, so it is yes from me. Make it little more unique and I’ll mark it on my wishlist. Good luck sir!

  7. I like the overall look, except for the crank. With the way it’s done, I would fear to break it. (& I can’t use 1 cent to wind it)

    I would prefer one where ~1/2 would be pulled up 90 degree to be turned. (or have a screw-style pin in the hole)

    I would buy & I prefer dual color lights.

      The crank is there right to activate LEDs and not to reassemble the watch, but if Tokyoflash can produce a watch with a reassembly with crank, the latter would be adapted to this new function.
      The crank is located above the watch to avoid removing it during the activation of LEDs, but for a true reassembly, will it be necessary adapts, perhaps, another location?

        The crank activates only the LEDS, therefore it there not of force exerted on this part. And if the watch is remonrée with the crank, it will be necessary to envisage a crank more important and more solid, but what counts initially, it is the idea.
        If TF told me that they can make a wind-up watch with a crank, I would be pleased to discuss with them, a solution (that would be just great!)
