Hidden LCD watch conceals numbers within numbers

Lloyd says: Hidden is an LCD concept watch design with a seemingly baffling display of digits and horizontal bars that conceal the time in a new way.

To read the time, all you have to do is concentrate on the rectangular spaces inside the digits and the rectangular bar shapes displayed between them and you’ll be able to see that they form 6 digits, each made up of 7 segments. The date is read in the same way and there’s a “quick reveal” mode if you’re in a hurry.

Hidden is USB rechargeable via a computer. It also has an alarm and an EL backlight which makes the display easier to read at night. The watch’s case and strap are made from stainless steel and the display is “always on”.

This design would appeal to anyone who loves quirky modern gadgets, puzzles, enigmas, creativity and thinking “outside the box”.

It stands out because of its uniquely concealed cryptic digits and its unusually busy and mystifying display which is sure to catch people’s attention.

  2. This is a clever design and easy to read when you know how. I like the way the “quick reveal” only shows the vertical lines (the “other half”) and not the full numbers. 5*/Y

  4. very creative and way outside the box, Lloyd. I’m always impressed with your puzzles and designs. I can usually figure them out without explanation, but this one had me puzzled until you explained to get the vertical pieces from the holes. The positive/negative hybrid didn’t come very naturally to my brain, hehe. 🙂

  13. I would replace bars between numbers through dots like those you would expect between hours and minutes to make it appear more usual. For me, the bars feel like they are giving the hidden numbers away, because it is something you would not see on a regular digital display. However, great idea, Lloyd.

  14. I like the way you hided the digits. I thought that It was also fun that you could remember 10 dual-digits instead of 10 single-digit, but realize that 88 & 98 are used twice.
