Ikimono cute creature LCD watch

Design submitted by Lloyd from Australia.

Lloyd says: Ikimono is an unusual yet loveable LCD concept watch design that uses cute-looking creatures to display the time and date. Ikimono is the Japanese word for “creatures”.

Although the time and date are shown in a slightly enigmatic way, they are surprisingly easy to read once you know how. Each of the 4 creatures in the display contains a hidden digit formed by the creature’s rectangular mouth (if present) and the indentations between its ears and limbs. There’s a “quick reveal” option for when you’re in a hurry or want to explain how it works to a friend.

For added fun there’s a choice of 2 animations showing the creatures dancing randomly or in a synchronized fashion. You can initiate them by touching a button or by programming them to play every 5, 10 or 15 minutes.

Ikimono has an alarm and is USB rechargeable via a computer. It also has an EL backlight which makes the display easier to read at night. The watch’s case and strap are made from stainless steel and the display is “always on”.

This design would appeal to anyone with a sense of fun or who loves quirky modern gadgets, animals, creativity and thinking “outside the box”.

It stands out because of its unique and eye-catching cryptic display.

  1. I am a big fan of this design – it’s crazy awesome how the digits are hidden in plain sight, and these little creatures are so cute, especially with the little dancing animations! haha. I just love it. This would be a very fun watch to own. 😀 5*/yes

  4. This is really funky,
What a clever idea! Digits are very unique. It should appeal to lots of people. Digits are evocative of Anime animals, Eewoks, cats, bears, and even robots as well. Very clever, and very artistic. Love the dancing Ikimono!
    I want one please.

  5. Very cool and very cute Lloyd! (The design that is lol) also very creative too. I like to think the creatures are Ewoks, must be time for “yub yub!” hehe. A very worthy 5/Y! On writing this the score is on 3.4, which is utter BS in my opinion! If people don’t get it, understand it or it doesn’t suit their personal taste doesn’t mean its not epic and worthy of a sensible rating! Anyways best of luck sir! 😀

  6. IKIMONO is really cute. I’m a girl, but I think guys can really dig this too.

IKIMONO reminds me of the virtual reality pets I played with in the ’90s. It’s a very playful and original concept for a watch–definitely for the young or the young at heart.

It may be challenging to read the numbers at first, but with a little practice, reading them becomes second nature.

5 and yes. Keep up the good work, Lloyd!

      • I’ve been working on one for serveral weeks now and am considering ‘protecting’ the design before I unleash it into cyberspace. I suppose I’ll have to subject the design to the TF rating system in the next month or so. Stay tuned…
