Heather says: I thought of the digits for this design while driving.  The lights on the back of the car in front of me formed a curve, and I based the digits on similar curved shapes.

RACETRACK is intended to use EL-sheet technology for an always on display with glowing digits.  The large digit tells the hour, and the two smaller digits tell the minutes.  For hours such as 10, 11, and 12, there is room for a 1 to the left of the main display.

This unisex design has a futuristic feel with cryptic, yet readable digits.

  1. As a petrol head I have to like this by default. Looks great and is relatively easy to read. What would really be awesome is if the smaller numbers could be integrated into the larger ones so it looked like one continuos track. Dunno if that’s possible. Either way 5/Y best of luck Heather! 😀

    • Thanks, Pete! It probably would be pretty awesome if it could be a continuous track, but I don’t think it could be done while still maintaining readability. (At least I haven’t found a way) Thanks for your support! 🙂

      • Maybe the smaller numbers are linked together inside the larger track? like a smaller track inside the larger one. Its not uncommon at racetracks to have a shorter track inside the main one, or a go kart track in the centre etc. It might make “8” difficult, but you could have a flyover (bridge)

    If I can make a remark, is figure 4 of the minutes close to figure 9?
    All this deserves 5 stars with a 3D increasingly more pleasant.

      In response to your remark, the “9” has no gap in the top segment, like the 4 does, and also the “9” has the bottom segment extended as well. Otherwise, they are similar in the same way a digital “9” and “4” usually are. 😉

  3. Love the track numbers, Heather.
    The single straight digit for the 10 is a bit disappointing (was wondering how you’d do this till I got to the end). If this could be curved in some way, it would be better.
    Still 5/Y for me, though.
