Retrograde LCD watch with 24hr time.

Design submitted by Matt from Canada.

Matt says: I love retrograde, & bi-retrograde, watches for their time-telling clarity. So I made a few sketches & convert one of them into an LCD watch.

It could also be made as a pocket watch or convertible watch-pocket watch. The 4 buttons could be replaced by touchscreen.

The display is divided in 3 LCD screen, or would be 1 LCD screen covered by the case with 3 cut-out pieces: 2 vertical curved lines flanked close to the edges and 1 circle in the middle. Between them there is an empty space. On the bezel there are 13 markers per side: indicating even hour and 5 minutes.

It’s using the 24 hours format and include date and alarm.

The left screen is used for the hours & month (the 12 odd hour position). The right one is used for the minute. The hours start around 6 o’clock, and finish at 12 o’clock. The minute start around 12 o’clock, and finish at 6 o’clock. 1 line indicates the exact time, except at midnight and 00 minute where 2 lines are used, 1 on top and 1 at the bottom. The middle one has 2 digits used for the seconds and date. Around them, there’s a circle for the alarm indicator.

An alternative display method would be to use the digits for the hour, allowing the user to select between 12 and 24 hour format, and date. Then, use the left screen for the minute, as well as the month, and use the right one for the second. The lines direction wouldn’t change.

People who love cryptic/sci-fi watches and retrograde display.

It would be the first bi-retrograde watch in tokyoflash history/collection.

  1. Nice and simple time telling with a technical look. Probably my favourite of your designs so far! 5/Y best of luck sir!
Am I right in thinking the time on the red faced version at the top of the page should be 22:35 17?
