Heather says: ZAG was inspired by Firdaus’ V watch concept.  I started with a similar V, but turned it on its side, gave it an overlap, and decided that 4 separate digits in this format would look really cool on a bracelet style watch.

I continued with the same concept of a 3×5 rectangular array for each digit, but allowed some segments to appear to be partially “cut off”.  The watch has an LCD display with backlight, and can be set for 12 or 24 hour mode.  It can show date, and includes an alarm function.

This unisex design could have a wide appeal due to ease of reading, as well as its cool edgy style with an “always on” display.

This concept stands out because of the unique format of its display.  And for me, it also stands out because it is my first attempt at using 3D rendering software. 😉

  5. Looks great Heather and is easy to read but not too easy. I think the lines that seperate the blocks could be a tad finer but then it would be easier to read, so there is a trade off between crypicness (a real word now!) and visual preference (all subjective obviously) Very nice first attempt at the old CAD renderings (scary infact) soon you will be giving the rest of us lessons! 5/Y Best of luck

    • Thanks, Pete. I did consider making the lines in between a bit finer, but i was afraid that then you wouldn’t really see the spaces at all. Of course, if TF wanted to make this, an adjustment to the width of the spaces would be a very easy tweak. 🙂 Let’s hope they do!

  7. I like this design a lot, especially because of the fact that it is bracelet style. It’s so unique, and it seems like it would look really cool whether it was on a guy or a girl. I had a little trouble reading the digits at first, but once I saw the animation, it was easier to see. Like Pete said above, you might want to consider making the spaces between the digits a little more narrow. That might make it a little easier to read for people like myself. It’s a really stylish watch, though, and I love the choice of colors, so I give it 5*/yes!

    • Thanks Roberta! Ah, another fan of bracelet style – yeah, when done right, it could certainly be really cool on either a man or a woman! Hmmm – another person wants less space between digits — sounds like that tweak I mentioned for TF might be a good idea it they want to produce! 🙂

  9. Love it! The V design is one of my favorites for some reason. Seriously beautiful! My only criticism….and Heather take this very very lightly cause I only say this cause I try to give constructive criticism on every watch …… is I would like the design to be more spread out. Like the design to be spread more across the band. That’s it 🙂 love it!

    • Thanks, Bryce for your well thought out comment and constructive criticism! The only reason I didn’t spread them out more was for plausibility in manufacturing it – I think a curved display would be difficult, pricey, or both. Thanks again for your support! 🙂

  11. So nice sublte 3D ribbon effect! Although it’s a bit cheesy because of the literal translation of the idea into a concept, the silver border makes this concept pretty stylish. That works fine. I like how cleverly you handled the segments, especially how you avoid a number to be covered to much by a superposed ribbon layer. It’s a tad too elegantly femine for me but what about making it even more accessorish by continuing the zig zag into the staps? Parallelogram segments maybe that echo the adjecent silver border of the display. I believe Tokyoflash couls use this sort of fashion watch. Less gadgety, more bling bling. Good luck Heather!!
