Peel conceals watch in wrist bangle.

Design submitted by Peter from the UK.

Peter says: I was being dragged around the shops by my better half over the xmas period and saw some very nice modern xmas tree globes which were made from a single strip of metal formed into a sphere, they looked like a peeled orange for want of a better description. This reminded me of a classic chair which was inspired by the shape of an orange peel. This form seemed to suggest itself to an interesting watch concept which would look more like jewellery than a conventional watch, “Peel” was the result.

The time telling method is a bit of a hybrid between RPM and Seven, the two edges of the spiral peel like shape house a row of LEDs each. The outer spiral of LEDs describes the hours in a traditional analogue format, the inner spiral shows 5 minute blocks again in a traditional analogue format. And the four small LEDs at the 12 O’clock position on the inner spiral describe the single minutes.

This design is very modern and has a jewellery like feel so will probably a”peel” more to the ladies rather than the gents. That said the simple clutter free form may temp the more artistic chaps amongst us.

The organic form and LED edging separated this design from others. Its curvaceous character lends itself to a multitude of colours and finishes which may widen its a”peel”

    • Hi ajw002, I use a programme called Solidworks. It’s very easy to learn and ideal for beginners if you can get hold of a copy, it is on the expensive side. Sketchup is a free software that gives good results. Other programmes to look out for are 3D studio Max, catia, rhino, alias. All will give good results with a little practice. But sketches are sufficient for submission if you can describe you idea clearly. Good luck and thanks for the vote! 😀

  2. Very smooth and elegant. I think it’s especially cool because it can be either manly or sleek and sexy for the ladies depending on the color. I just hope it’s sturdy enough. And seeing there’s no place for a charger. Possibly because it’s an early development but it has none I hope it has long battery life. But I’d buy it and 4.5 out of 5 for me

    • Hi Bryce, this design is a very loose concept. I haven’t worried too much about the technical aspect. As an LED design it would most definitely benefit from USB charging etc. obviously things like controls would need adding and I’m sure there would be many technical issues that would need resolving if the concept were developed further. I’m glad you likey and cheers for the feedback! 😀

  3. Beautiful design! But I would develop it as a cuff bracelet , it’s not necessary that it be functional . The lines are really niceiii

  5. Very nice Pete! I really like the curves and the way you’ve managed to balance everything, which certainly isn’t easy… As people have mentioned above it works very well without the watch functionality, but making it work as a watch as well should make it pretty irresistible to many.
Keeping with the peel theme, it’d be interesting to see it in orange, with a mottled orange-peel effect… Maybe a bit on the gimmicky side, but it might look cool…=)

Pete is a hidden poet who appears with this beautiful project.

  8. Very interesting, crazy and unique. It’s done beautifully. My only concern is on the image 09, you seem broke a part of the band, then you need to fix three part of the whole watch to wear it? Unless yes, these are alien technology using special magnetic metal and free energy… (just watch “Ancient Aliens: The Einstein Factor” yesterday). I think we need to investigate your brain genius.

I believe something can be done to make this watch more feasible and still retain its element, since the artistry is quite strong.

I like the overall idea and WHY NOT to yess it and high five!

    • Hey Fir,

I was working on the basis that the band was hinged like some ladies bracelets, with a spung bias so it is either open or closed and has a little tension on it to allow for a variety of wrist sizes. Conviently I have not shown an angle that shows the hinge 😉 Yeah this one is very conceptual and I havent concerned myself with too much focus on the feasibility. I think like you say it could be made feasible but still retain the look. Cheers for the fine feedback and vote sir! 😀

      • Hello again Pete I’ve had some ideas for other colors / flavours for the Peel Wrist watch Concept. Green: Lime, Red: Apple, Yellow: Lemon, Orange: Mandarin, Satsuma Navel or Transparent: Skin Peel. Also because the shape of this watches maybe difficult to make using conventional means what would happen if it was made using 3D printing?

      • Hi Andrew, thanks for the extra thoughts/ideas. Fruitylicious! I don’t think the case would be the biggest technical issue, it’s a funny shape but would be castable I think. I imagine the electronics would be the tricky part, most LED watches have a solid modual. This design would need it to be a bespoke shape or divided into sections. I don’t know if printed parts are that cost effective yet, depends on quantities I imagine. They tend to require more finishing. I imagine with a few tweaks the case could be made more feasible with loosing the look, it doesnt strictly need to have the cut outs etc. Thanks again for the extra thoughts! 😀

  11. Organic and original,
    fragil and fantastic,
    but still elegant and enagmatic.

I am rather divided since I realy like the look and idea, even if I can’t see me wear one myself.
As a second thought, I would probably buy one as a present to my wife.

    • Hi Krln,
Im sorry to say that this is only a concept at this stage and is not yet available for purchase. As to the process, you have already helped in that regard. If the design gets enough votes, comments, shares and if it appeals to TF too then there is a chance they may choose to develop it into a saleable product. Then it would be available on the “watches” page of the website! 😀

  16. The overall look & time-telling method are nice. Because of the clasp & the un-modifiable band, I wouldn’t buy.

Even if it’s categorize as a girl watch, I love the black/green lights model.

    • Cheers for the feedback Makko! If TF were to develop this design further they may well make the band more adjustable or conventional in its construction. Who knows then it might start tugging at your purse strings! 😉
Thanks again for the comment and support! 😀
