VISE watch using Electroluminescent sheet technology

Heather says: The last TF Blog Progress Report expressed interest in new technologies, such as EL sheet, which is somewhere between LCD and LED. At first, I just wanted to make a cool looking unisex design with vertically stretched always on glowing numbers. When I designed the numbers, they appeared to me like they were being squeezed together from the sides, like they were in a vise.  So I named the concept VISE.  Then I thought about what a vise actually does, and I realized that this concept can go further.  I can solve the problem of watches being too big/clunky for ladies.

The module for displaying time is narrow, by the nature of the digits used.  If it is removable, it can be placed into a narrow case with a narrow strap (for ladies), or a wider case with strap (for men). The module can also be worn as a pendant, or used as a pocket watch. The four digits can tell the time, or the date, and can be set to 12 hour or 24 hour mode.  It can have an alarm mode, if desired.  Or better yet, it can be used as a countdown timer in minutes and seconds, for times less than 100 minutes.

Due to its multi-functionality, VISE should appeal to anyone and everyone.  The digits are easy to read, and glowing numbers are awesome and futuristic.

    • Hi cristian. 12 or 24 hour format can be decided later. I think, more accurate comment of yours should sound like this —- “I hope this watch will have 24 hour mode option…”. Thank you.

      I think this watch is quite too normal looking unless something is being done to the design to its face and strap to make it less obvious, for example, allow me to provide a suggestion here;

      • wow, firdaus – thanks for the support, and for taking the time to draw out suggestions!…i actually prefer my elongated digits, but i can see something in your octagonal display shape that can be really neat for these digits 😉

  3. GMTA on this one. I definately support the removeable case and interchangable strap concept! The option of different sizes of strap to suit wrist sizes has got to be a good thing. I like the display too, nice numbers! 5/Y Best of luck

      • Hehe yeah cos you took the box out of the box…literally! lol
        I wouldnt pay much attention to the ratings, I have seen a few scores in recent weeks that just dont seem right. The addition of knowing how the number of ratings highlights this further. The comments so far seem very supportive which has gotta be a good sign! Keep up the good work! 😉

  9. Very cool looking. And I like the pocket-watch option – I’m always trying to avoid the watch tan lines during the summer. Can you give us a link for the science behind the electroluminescent (EL?) sheet technology?

  10. Very cool idea how the centerpiece of the watch can pop in and out of different cases (eg wider or thinner bands for men and women) – that’s a very interesting and unusual concept for a watch! The stretched (or squeezed) numbers look really nice for the design too, and it has an elegant simplicity to it which I like. Great job!
