Lloyd says: “Streetwise” is a fun and creative LCD concept watch design that uses rows of houses, containing hidden digits, to display the time.

Telling the time is easy. The hours are displayed in the top row, the minutes in the middle row and the seconds in the bottom row. The digits are displayed on their sides in the negative spaces between the doors and windows in the houses. In date mode the day is displayed in the top row, the month in the middle row and year in the bottom row.

It has an alarm and is USB rechargeable via a computer. It also has an EL backlight which makes the display easier to read at night. The watch’s case and strap are made from stainless steel and are available in silver or black. The 2-colour LCD display is available in a variety of colours and is “always on”.

I feel this design would appeal to anyone who likes art, modern gadgets, thinking ‘outside the box’ and creativity.

This design stands out because of its unique and easy-to-read cryptic display.

  1. Nice job! I like the idea of this, the only problem I have is that you would need to turn your head to the side to clearly read the numbers on the watch. If that was rethought to be slightly a less pain in the neck I’d be on board with this!

    • Cheers Justin. 🙂 I designed this as a puzzle about 6 months ago for my website Aha! Puzzles so that’s why it’s a bit of a puzzle. 🙂 If the numbers were upright the windows and doors wouldn’t look as convincing and the numbers would be a bit too obvious for a Tokyoflash watch.

    • Hi Justin, you don’t need to turn your head to read the numbers. The human brain is extremely adaptable in recognising new concepts, and after looking at the sideways digits a few times your brain would decipher them easily. It would be much easier than deciphering how to operate a mobile phone (something most people can do)!
      And yes, I think Lloyd has done a nice job too! It is a unique display and very cool.

  2. My only complain is the numbers rotation, rotate em to 90 degree clockwise, and this will be a fun design. Maybe a bungalow with many doors digits. This used to be a fun house…. (sfx: du du du du du)

  4. This gets 5y for making me laugh! 🙂 It certainly deserves better than the rating it’s currently getting…I bet those stupid downraters are at it again. Don’t they realise that downrating is such a pointless exercise…TF knows who you are! (They can see the IP addresses of voters! I bet they can read through masking software, too.) You must spend so much wasted time and energy trying to get the rating down.

    It would have to have a bit of sophistication for me to buy it for myself, it currently looks too cartoony. I think this would be a big hit with people who like cutesy stuff…perhaps you could have one sophisticated version and one cutesy version. (One for the kids?) Maybe I would buy one for my nephew!

    I already see children in the schoolyard revealing the secret of reading time with buddies.
    5 * and Yes, it is still poetry, Mushy is a poet!

    We must vote for this project refreshing quickly, the current note does not correspond to this design.

  6. This is a very fun design and the numbers work great. The red display one looks very xmasy! I have to agree with DZ about the ratings! I dont know why people do it! I think somepeople get confused between personal taste and good and bad, just cos something doesnt suite your own subjective taste doesnt give you the right to slate it!   8. I think my entry fell victim to them as well–after a month mine ended at where yours is now, 3.1 stars.

    I like the arrows, but I’d want the numbers turned 90 deg as well.

  10. Lovely concept Lloyd 🙂 I would take away the seconds so you can relaxingly look at the four houses. Maybe a 3×2 array would work too, looking more streety. I think this would look awesome as a wallclock. Good luck and keep the ideas coming!

    • Cheers for commenting Sam. 🙂 I thought about doing those things too, but the 2X2 array looked a bit boring to me and I thought the other way would be too wide. It’s hard to know what to do sometimes. lol I knew there could be a problem with putting a watch with houses on this blog, but I thought it might appeal to the more playful and imaginative. Anyway, thanx for your encouragement!

      • Comprehensible 🙂 How about having all houses in a row and a comfortably narrow/wide display (hehe) and having the street scrolling through slowly. A gap would mark the end/the beginning. See, I’m sticking with the street theme which is really cooool Lloyd.

  12. I like the idea to hide the # in an object but dislike the 90degree couter-clockwise angle. I like the animation.
