XtalIV watch could be mysterious alien wrist wear.

Design submitted by Sam from Germany.

Sam says: XtalV is a variation of my Xtal concept that also used hexagon based numbers. This time I arranged them vertically and so the display looks even more cryptic, like an alien inscription.

The LED numbers are different because the underlying hexagons are turned 90˚.

I also tried another material: a matte black translucent silicone. A glossy black like the last time would work too of course. Like in my original design, an edge sharply bends the numbers, creating a geometrical connection to them.

The edge runs around the wrist and gives the watch a nice look. The display can be touch sensitive but physical button that are hidden inside the silicone would work too. In any case I like the purity of a buttonless geometry.

XtalV is for minimalists, hexagon lovers and those with alien ancestors 😉

  1. Very Sammy design. Great looking think with uber cool numbers. Do this in carbon fibre and I will be like a pig in sh#t! 😀 5/Y Best of luck sir! 😀

  2. Very cool design! Te alien symbols also remind me of the ISO hieroglyphics from Tron legacy, and could be an awesome companion piece to the Seven, but with a more minimalist design and display. Well done! 5/5

  3. The numbers might take a bit of learning before I could comfortably tell the time, but I would never take this watch off. Great design

  4. Hi Sam, this is again a superb Watch.
It’s been 4 years since I read Time “Tokyoflash” on my wrist every day, so while keeping the characters of letters, I would wish it to be just a little easier to read (otherwise, I no would really any more in time to my appointment?)
This is a comment to those who have difficult alarm clock, like me.
    5* and big YES!

  5. Me like! Sam, please don’t succumb to requests to make digits easier to read/separate digits because that’s what I love about this design: glyphs!

  6. Sam, I’m not a fan of these numbers at all. I guess people on here like them because they look ‘cool’. Also, I don’t like the ridge in the middle of the wristband. Having said that, I can see why some people might like the overall idea/design. It just doesn’t excite me or fill me with wonder. 😦

  7. Now this is pretty darn awesome. It’s like the Kisai Sevens’ extraterrestrial cousin 😛
The cryptic time-telling is easy to learn, not to mention looks very exotic. More color options would be nice, though. I’d love to see an eerie green glowing or even orange from this design. Nice work 5/Y

  8. Superb. 1 million stars and a YES!

Absolutely love the numbers. I think more colour variations might help sell it to more people but i’ve got a sneaky feeling this design will be popular enough anyway. 🙂

  9. why does it seem that i always come back to say something about sam’s designs? well, one reason must be that i’m always stunned by the simple ingenuity of them. sam, you take very simple, basic elements, but put them together in creative and efficient ways that make me want to scream with joy.

anyway, i really dig this design. if it ever gets manufactured – which i root for! – i’d just wish that the dimensions are made to be rather bold and big. of course, the design works with a slim wristband just as well, but my personal taste would be to have a really broad [talking 5 centimeter or even more!] wristband with the display in the center. that would creat a lot of negative space around the LEDs… and that’s the way i personally would prefer it.

  10. I really like this concept, I definitely would buy this one.
Digits are awesom, simple yet very classy wrist.
I’d prefer it to be without tactile, but with a really discret button.
    I want it !

  11. This is a really cool design: it is futuristic, minimalistic, mysterious and still easy to read. I hope that it will become reality despite all the challenges, and I also hope that the final product will look close to the concept. Viel Glück auch von mir!

  12. This is an ultimate Sci Fi Fan Watch!! I would def buy this ! The numerals are cool but, maybe make them a bit more logic oriented as they don’t really conform to Earth Numerals that well… Still would buy- Hope Tokyo Flash makes this watch !!

  15. I was looking for cool watches for myself for Christmas. It’s a shame this one isn’t a reality yet, this would have been my pick. Flawless design and definitely an eye-catcher. It’s a 5* and a yes from me.

  16. I love the “normal wristband” look. “physical button that are hidden inside the silicone” would be nice. ( I have a Time-It watch with that feature ) I prefer these digits vs the one of the other version. & the overlapping problem is history.

Hopefully, the band will be user-adjustable. 5* & I would buy.

I’m used to classic watches…But this one has really changed my mind! It looks pretty unusual but still very modern. It has it’s own style!
Technologies are coming in our life now. So,I think this watch will be the best thing for people of the 21 century!

PLEASE! MAKE IT REAL!!! I AM READY TO GET IT NOW!!! 🙂

  18. Thank you everybody so much for your support! It was so much fun to make the first Xtal so I made this, also for fun. It’s so amazing how it was recieved here. It’s so cryptic but so liked… epically cool 😀 I’ve read all your comments at least once and I liked to let them stand on their own this time. I’ve learned something again from you and will try to keep it in mind for upcoming designs. Stay tuned!

    My best regards,
    Sam from Germany
