Terraform LED watch scans the planet surface.

Design submitted by Logan from the USA.

Logan says: What to wear to a formal event?  LEDs, a smoked black lens, and engraved metal.

Terraform uses a simple, almost classical method of telling the time.  In a classical analog watch, the hours and minutes are indicated by hands inside the dial.  But what if we move the hour and minute indicators to the outside of the dial?  Terraform uses this approach, with LEDs as indicators surrounding a disc for the hours (top) and a disc for the 5-minute groups (bottom).  The disc are made of the same metal as the case, inlaid into the smoked black lens and engraved with a grid or etched with images of the Moon or Mars.  Four small LED dots at the bottom count extra minutes 1-4.

Suggestions for customizing the case color, engraving/etching, LED color, and strap color are shown in the examples.

If you’re equally at home in the corporate board room or on the bridge of a spaceship, Terraform will fit your personality.

Terraform is both formal and futuristic, with an unusual but subdued case design.  The inlaid discs add an extra dimension to customization and make this a great candidate for a highly personalized LED watch.

  1. Ultra cool concept, Logan. You could do all sorts of cool animations with this concept. The different celestial bodies give it excellent variety, too.

Reminds me of Denshoku meets Satellite mixed with awesome! 5/y from this guy.

    • Thanks, Cory. Yes, you could have different animations, maybe at certain astronomically-interesting times. For example, on days with a full moon, a special animation is shown every hour. Glad it reminds you of Denshoku, that’s my favorite Tokyoflash design.

  2. A good and fresh concept. Actually I couldn’t quite imagine this design, and the time indicator, should it has some sort of subtle line to ease reading? How about a square theme in stead of round? If it goes with this shape, I vote for SS strap. Still interesting idea Logan.

    • Thanks for the feedback, Firdaus. If you want indicators to ease reading, perhaps there could be indentations in the case around the lens. Square theme wouldn’t be my preference, unless you know of some cubical planets 🙂 As for the strap, there are two reasons why I was thinking leather instead of metal: 1) to reduce the cost to offset the engraving/etching, 2) a dark leather strap always seems more formal to me, and I imagine this as a dress watch.

  4. Great idea, Logan. Very simple time-telling is a winner for me. I would have liked to see a 3D representation, just for the wow factor. 5/y

  5. I like it Logan, Nice simple but unusal take on analogue time telling. Love the detail on the globes.
Maybe the glass could be etched where the globes are? this would look cool when illuminated ect. Very support worthy concept! 5/Y Best of luck sir! 😀

    • Thanks, Pete. The metal inlays wouldn’t have any glass covering them, the glass would have two holes where they are. So, no glass to etch above them. But, if you want some light play, perhaps the engravings/etchings could be filled with lume.

      • Ahh I see, that makes sense…nicey nice. In that case I think the engraving or laser etching in the metal will be detail enough. would have a nice tactile quality too, yummers! 😀

  6. Very cool idea I likes it 5/Y, as for not being able to do 3D, try using blender, it is fairly easy to learn (and free) and id like to see this idea in 3D 🙂

    • Blender for the win! also, Pov-ray… you have to learn to work with shaders, but there are a bunch of cool ones out there which are already set up.

  7. I like the overall look. ( my fav is the gold one ) I would have love to see more time displayed/written pics, to know what it look like at 7-12h / 35-55 min.
