Unimatrix watch, resistance is futile.

Design submitted by Sam of Borg.

Sam says: This watch is inspired by the Borg stasis alkoven displays used in Star Trek. The were so called plasma discs used as sophisticated stand-by lights for sleeping Borg – cybernetic aliens.

In the real world plasma discs are already available in 7cm diameter, rarely smaller, so the biggest challenge for this watch would be the size. Combining it with an analog watch is already possible.

The plasma light is used as extraordinary backlight. It is off normally, but can be switched on for a short or a longer time. The latter option would be cool in a club. Additional LEDs light up the translucent acetate edges of the straps which guide the light with a fibre optic effect.

As Star Trek fans know from Seven of Nine, technics can be sexy. So I chose an elegant design for the watch and fused it with the technical elements. This is a watch for active people – the exact opposite of the inspiring stasis alkovens. It’s a sporty and squirrely watch that draws attention but stays elegant and fashionable at the same time.

Thank you to Gregory Ross who allowed me to use his plasma disc images, the watch displays are based upon.

  1. With all respect towards Jobby and Patrick from France who made plasma globe concepts before. Maybe this is the way how to do it. I just hope for a plasma watch.

  2. This is without doubt this is the best Analogue watch design I have ever seen on the Tokyo Flash Design Blog so far. Surely this Watch Concept deserves to be constructed. Resistance is futile

  4. I love the design. It is very interesting. I especially like the black and green version. However, I am not a fan of analog. I say yes only for the black and green version because i like that color combination in almost all watches.

    • Yep, I think, there should be done something to let the watch look hot when the bizzbuzz is still off. But I’m glad, it pleases the Taco 🙂

  8. I like the entire design except glowing straps (I think it mess with the display and make the watch like a toy). Nevertheless I like the plasma disc idea and would definitely buy some if they become real. 5*!

  9. The overall look is amazing. I like the red. If they use that kind of hands, I might buy even if it’s an analog.
