“Itheann” LED watch is very futuristic.

Sam says: There is this quote: “Time is a predator that stalks us all of our lives.” It made me think if that’s true. Actually with all the things we do, time is running away, getting eaten up by activity. Not we are the prey, time is. I made this concept of a watch, that looks like biting time.

Itheann (gealic for eat) has this C-shaped case that looks like a mouth full of teeth – in an abstract and stylish way. You can wear the watch with the opening left or right because of it’s symmetrical design.
It is a 12-5-9 watch. There are three linear arrays of LEDs that tell the twelve hours, the five 10-min increments and the nine single minutes. Each third LED is bigger which eases up counting. An extra LED at the very end of the time display is the pm indicator. Before time is told, a biting animation plays. After 5 seconds, the LED display shrinks and looks like getting swallowed. Yummy!

  1. I would use a different method to count the time – who remember the Corrosion? It goes pretty well. 12 dots are a lot to count, but it becames faster if they are arranged in two rows of 6. here on the “hour” jaw we don’t have place for two rows, but 6 lights with a “+6” light could do the trick.
    in the centre, three lights each of 15 minutes. easy to divide the hour into 4.
    the minutes as for the corrosion lights up on the lower jaw (14 lights).

    i’d buy it like that! 😀

      Thanks alot for the suggestion to ease up the reading! There is always a hitch when not using the usual time telling way. The hitch for your suggestion would be, that on each row an LED represents another amount of numbers (1, +6, 15, 1 again, pm). Then you suggest 14 lights for the final minutes although 12 lights would be too much for counting 😉 You see, you simplify at one end and then you have to react to the consequences at the other end. That’s always the dilemma I have when making a time telling method.

      The cool thing on my method is, each 3rd light is bigger. So an 11 is read 3-6-9-10-11 and not 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11. Another good thing is, the classic 12:5-9 reading is translated 1:1 so there is no calculating or remembering needed except for the pm indicator.

      I’m open to suggestions and I do appreciate your input. It’s cool to know the opinions of others. In the end one couldn’t please everyone. There are so many sources of mispleasing possible in a single design. If one can please the majority (or a satisfying amount of money givers) then one can be happy 😉

  4. Hi Sam, you knoe already from your fb page that I am a fan of this project (whatever the name) its a great take on the classic 12-9-5 time telling format. It looks great is easy to read and very slim line! 5/Y Best of luck!

      • I use Photoshop for 2D and 3ds Max for 3D. I started to train myself these programs before the free alternatives GIMP and BLENDER existed, which I would recommend to use now.
