Mosaic LCD watch with minimalist digits.

Design submitted by Heather from USA.

Heather says: I wanted to develop some minimalistic digits that would appear cryptic, yet once learned are quite easy to recognise.  I accomplished this by arranging various sizes of rectangular tiles to give the feel of classic digits.  I call this display “MOSAIC”.

The MOSAIC digits are arranged in four quadrants on the rectangular mirror LCD display.  The top two digits tell the hours or months, while the bottom two tell the minutes or days.

This is a unisex design intended for anyone who likes a sleek, elegant, initially cryptic look, but also enjoys the ability to read the time at a glance.

This design has an artistic, geometric theme that helps it stand out from other submitted designs.

  1. Now THIS is a perfect example for another heather-series-display. Take the case of the stencil and make this display (and some others!) et voilá, easy geeky arts epicness. Very cool numbers, simple, recognizable and a little confusing at first glance. 5*/YES

    • thanks, sam!! as far as i’m aware, tf doesn’t have plans for a heather series (lol), but maybe one day they’ll decide to take on another of my concepts (or collaborative ones;) )…doesn’t look like it will be this one, though…thanks for your input and your vote! 😀

  2. Metal finish, geometric tiles, whats not to like. Cryptic looking but quick to get used to.
This time telling method would also look nice on a metal bracelet style watch too.
Very abstract! 5 and Yes! 😀

    • Thanks Pete and Firdaus!! Abstract was the goal, but I guess that’s not what people are looking for…
      Thanks for the stars!

  3. I like the look of the design Heather and the digits work well too. I think I’d prefer them without the heavy black lines though, but that’s just me. 5* and yes. 🙂

    • Hey, Lloyd! My first sketch didn’t have the heavy black lines, but it looked too plain. Maybe if I had better 3D skills to make the rest of the watch look more realistic, it would have looked better. Thanks for your comment and suggestion, and also for your vote!! 😀

  4. First, congrats on Stencil, Heather! The watch has a very fun vibe and the design makes great artistic use of colored LCD.

About Mosaic, I like the block arrangements that display the digits, but I’m not crazy about the “7” shapes inside the blocks. I think I would prefer this if the blocks were just outlined.

    • Hey, Logan!!! Thanks! I love how Stencil came out, and I wear mine all the time. 😀
Lloyd also said the thicker parts of the lines were bothersome. That’s an easy fix. The main idea here was to use simple rectangular tiles to get the digits across. Thanks for your input!! 😀
