Design submitted by Anders from Sweden.
Anders says: This concept sprung from my thoughts on how to make a highly customisable watch with a feasible circular display. I wanted to get away from the rectangularity of LCD, TFT and the like. I came upon this idea, which evolved into something considerably more advanced than I was aiming for.
The display consists of some kind of phosphorescent layer, on which a diode (UV, LED or possibly a CRT) writes. The diode is mounted on two hypocyclic segments, which rotate to reach any point on the face. Thus, time can be displayed in almost any manner, as the images show.
If possible, the display might be a combination of phosphorescent and phoretic, to aid readability under different lighting conditions. The writing diode should also have a variable focus, to allow for thinner or thicker lines to be drawn. Ideally, the fading time of the display should be controlled as well.
The display is very much the raison d’etre of this watch. It should fascinate and appeal to anyone interested in physics, technology and cool gadgets. The choice of materials keeps the target audience as wide as possible; it could be worn by anyone from a teenager to a business executive.

Bluetooth functionality could be added to allow the watch to display short messages such as appointments or texts from the wearer’s smartphone. A vibration could be used to alert the wearer to incoming messages or upcoming alarms.
The watch itself could be made from almost any material; metal, plastic, CFRP or even wood or stone. The face should not be overly detailed, however, to avoid competition with the display. Straps could be rubber, flexible carbon reinforced plastic or metal links to suit a wide variety of wearers.
The Carbon Fibre one w/ metal links LIKE A BOSS!
This is a super cool design, Anders! did the 5/y thing here!

Judging from the technology it would require, I think this would be the most expensive tokyoflash to the moment :S, nice idea tough 🙂

Probably, yes.=) I’m thinking of making a slightly lower-tech version though, which should be a bit more affordable…

3DS Max for the modelling, Illustrator and Photoshop for the textures, and then some more Photoshop at the end to bring it all together.

I love the idea of having a transparent display on top of some mechanics. this is a beautiful vision! the display is so variable, we need more things like that. I like customizing and adapting my stuff to my taste and needs. I like the subtle use of color here too. Hypopthetical *********************/YES!

Thanks for the comment and the support!
The customisation aspect was the most important feature when I was designing it, and I find mechanics fascinating, so it’s good to see that combination appeals to more people.
