Tyre Concept LED Watch Design

Design submitted by Peter from UK.

Peter says: “I am a bit of a petrol head and wanted to do a car related watch.  I figured that a tyre rather lent itself to a watch strap so I went from there.  The tread in the tyre resembled a basic digital display and here we are”.

To tell the time, you simple squeeze the sides of the tyre (no visible button).  The appropriate sections of the tread would then be illuminated to display the time in a digital format.

This watch design is a very simple concept and reading the time is easy.

  1. Well Pete, still a new concept “original”.
Difficult to wear a watch at all times.
I think the idea is good, but it really looks like a tire too, a more artistic would have been more original, in my humble opinion.
    Small yes for the originality.

      • I am not right inevitable, but if you had personalized this tire with your taste, without taking a basic tire, it would have had more character, I think?
With a little madness, it is often better.

      • Maybe that is a development direction if TF like the principle, a TF tread pattern etc.
I just picked a shape that lent itself to a digital style display.
Thanks for the feedback Patrick 🙂

  2. Oh nice. I like the way you think (GMTA, never made it out the sketch phase 🙂 ). It’s a cool and funny concept. The cooler and the funnier for the ones, the… you know, such literal designs polarize. That’s the way of things. The side text is great, hehehe. The squeezing option is great as well – the clean consequence of the material usage. The watch being a tire literally is actually a good thing. Maybe some more watchy (with a closing mechanism), less bracelett design would’ve been more appealing, but the general decision is cool. You like motorsports hm? I hope more motorsport fans come here and tell what they think.

Can you show me a black, slightly glossy (fresh from the shop) tire with white. no wait, yellow lights on your page? That’s the color scheme I would’ve tried.

Anyway, I like it and I can see why people don’t. It’s playful but confined, has a recoqnizable theme and is easy to read, voila 🙂

    • Thanks Sam, thats brightened my day.
This was one of those ideas that had to pour out of my brain whether people like it or not.
For you I will do a semi gloss black version, I did think about it but for some reason I didn’t do it.
Thanks for your positive view 🙂

  3. This is completely daring and unique idea, yet easy to read and very tokyoflasy… I hope this design can be brought to life since its awesome and uniqueness above normal but still not too strange and easy to read. Congratulation to you Pete. Tires, exhaust, plate, stone, building, even toilet bowl etc can be interestingly implemented as tokyoflash watch if its done by the right hands. I can’t wait to wear this so cool watch and whenever people around me ask where I get this awesome gadget I’ll proudly say Tokyoflash!

  5. This is different! I kinda like it. I agree with Samukun, it should be semi-gloss black with a regular clasp.
With these changes in place 5 and yes

  8. I actually love the band concept and display, just not that its a tire. I do enjoy the joke, but would prefer something less literal. Cool idea, though.

    • I can live with “watchiser” I’ve been called worse! lol
Oh bugger, im going to have to e-mail TF and ask them not to add that one to the blog now! hehe
I think I’ve only got a couple of what could be described as literal designs left.
Thanks for the comments rachid! 🙂

My mother owns a stor and sells a lot of jewelery made from rubber neoprene (earings, bracelets, etc. and everyone is surprised at how bulky it looks but how light and felxible it actually is.

    • Hi Chris,

Yeah I’ve seen that “ninja” watch before, proves the principle nicely. If you check-out my fb page (PF Design) click on my yellow name, I did a couple of images with a clasp. I like the rubber stuff, got a starck watch in rubber which is great for everyday use, its indestructabe and a couple beo watches so there is a market.
Im glad you like the concept, hopfully one day your mother might be able to stock some of these!
      Thanks for the comment! 🙂
