Crop Circles – A Watch Phenomenon

Design submitted by Cory from the USA.

Cory says: “Having looked at crop circles as an interesting phenomena, it seemed natural to affix some of the strange, interesting patterns and shapes to a timepiece. UFO’s have always fascinated me.

In this watch design, there are six hour marks, and one 12hr mark. The hours add until reaching six, at which point, only the 6hr marker blinks. If the 6hr marker is blinking, it is added to the other hour markers. At the 12hr mark, only the 12 blinks. There are 5 minute increments up to 30 minutes. If the 30 min indicator is blinking, it is added to the other 5 min blocks that are showing.

I think this watch would be and excellent choice for UFO enthusiasts and anyone else who does not believe we are alone in the universe on this pale blue dot. Perhaps any visitors to our end of the galaxy would also like to purchase one as an Earthling souvenir!

I think the shapes and patterns present in the design of this crop circle set it apart from the others. It employs both symmetry, and asymmetry for a stark contrast of form and function. The buttons to set and activate the watch are hidden in plain sight as the chrome hull plating pieces around the face of the watch, this also sets the design apart from others.

  1. I like the geometry of the case and the straps, especially the case and the area just before the straps begin. I have some crop circles sketches in my sketch book, I’m glad yours look way different 😉 I like the mechanical sci-fi look of your display. The time reading needs some little practice and then it is pretty easy. Showing several time examples and colors makes us easily judge the watch. Tokyoflashy watch!

  2. In my opinion, regardless of your explanation, just by look, the theme so into the game project you worked with. May be because of the browny colour you use for the material, or its the reflection from orange light I’m not sure. But if the actual colour really brown than it is good too because it looks like classic thing from another space, because I don’t remember there’s watch like this with brown colour. It’s not rusty, but whole watch including display should be brown also. The excellent of symbolism shape for watch reading does really gives it a, not so ufo imho, but like a classical space gadget timepiece. Congrats to you Corry.

    • I was trying to go for a bit of a metallic brown look. One that’s just off-black so that it isn’t dirt colored, but seems to be made of some out of this world material. I’m glad it was noticed!

  3. Great watch, at first kind of difficult to read but once you get the pratice it gets a bit easier, very good choice of colors, i would like to see a silver strap and also very good choice to put those small metal plates around the case it gives it a very cool touch.

    • I could definitely whip up a couple renders of a chrome strap. Not a bad idea in the least. As for the display itself, I definitely wanted to go for a more TFesque cryptic design. One that people would go ‘how do you tell time on that thing?’ once the user learned it well enough to have instant recognition.

      • Wow, Toys. I really like how this ended up coming out. It really sets the strap apart from the watch face. Also accentuates the UFO feel. Thanks for the suggestion!

  4. Thats a great watch! Actually, the display looks less like crop circles but more like the computer display from the aliens who use them for the landing. I like that though. The metal plates are pure sci-fi. I would buy a green one.
