“Laser RadiusBeam” Watch Design

The “Laser RadiusBeam Watch” runs through reflection emitted by laser beams, which leave the center and come to reflect on the statement outside the perimeter of the watch. A colored laser gives the hour and another colored laser gives the minutes. Even though it reads like a normal watch, this design is anything but normal.   1. The LED version is very cool! Nice animation and practical way to tell the time. Very good design. The display is maybe a little too deep inside.

    The laser version is also cool. You wold need to fill the case with some kind of smoke to make the laser beam visible, because light can only be seen at the light sourse and the matter wich reflects the beam. The 12 hours have a little gap with a highly reflective material maybe, but the minutes don’t. If that is somehow possible to make the laser beams visible, I woud take this watch too 😀

    • OK Sam, this watch was conceived before my “Reactor”and should contain only lasers (thinking like you, on the technical aspect difficult to achieve), I thought she would never published, so I have a slightly improved animations and I changed my name to “Nikkou” only with LEDs, but it’s the same watch.
      The raised edges are especially thinking of lasers, a bit useless for LEDs.

    • Sam, a technical question to your proposal as a smokescreen: If we put a glass on the “RadiusBeam Laser” with a special gas, in order to distinguish the laser, is this possible?

      • Hm maybe maybe… I don’t know really. It has to be really closed so that the gas cannot escape. Maybe frosted glass (verre dépoli) could work. That would be easier to make. Lasers are cool 😀

    A gas such as neon is confined in a tube, so why not a watch, it should not be too difficult, cons make a laser beam is a different kettle of fish?

    • Ok forget the gas 🙂 I thought a little bit. If you incline the laser beam, or usa e special prism, then you could guide the laser beam to light up a bigger area of the display. Thats so simple.

      A) That’s how it is right now, if I see it right
      B) The laser emitter is inclined. If the bottom of the display area is higly reflective, you can see a long line. But if you want to see a long line, the incilation angle has to be small. But the smaller the angle, the weaker the reflection. The bigger the inclination, the brighter but smaller the reflection…
      C) A special prisim could solve the problem. The laser beams could be guided like you want it.

  3. To avoid the need for gas and still show the laser, bevel the interior, bottom surface so that the deepest part is the center and the outer rim narrower. The laser would then illuminate against the rising bottom.

      • Early in the design of the Laser watch, I wanted to do a sort of bowl so that the laser follows the curvature (the center deeper than the edges) and for some reason drawing, I went in another direction, but your idea Travis, joined the Sam’s and mine, also the first name of this design was “reflection”.

  4. I think lasers can be implemented in a watch. With enough mirrors anything can be made. I like the idea very much. A less hollow case for both designs would be nice. Or a bowl 🙂 Cool watches!

    I prefer the laser version! I just wonder how can it be easy to read at 3:15 for example. Maybe you need to think a little more about it. Has for the lasers itself, the light effect looks just like lights on the Traffic watch, so you probably don’t need to bother with gas!! ;D
