Peter says: A lot of watches have a bezel, some have it for practical reasons like for measuring a set period of time. Most however are just a styling element. The nice thing with most is that they often add a little detail and a tactile quality. I decided to use the bezel as the time telling feature of this design.

Dimitar & Nikolay say: I was interested lately in ancient civilisations and their architecture, science, calendars, graphic system. So I thought it would be nice to have a face watch that resembles of an ancient calendar or number system because they always have their own continuity and circles like some kind of a reminder that life never ends.

Sam says: The display of sector is inspired by the popular pie charts that are used to display statistical information in mass media. I think those charts don’t only have a scientific value but also an artistic one.

Heather says: ZAG was inspired by Firdaus’ V watch concept. I started with a similar V, but turned it on its side, gave it an overlap, and decided that 4 separate digits in this format would look really cool on a bracelet style watch.

Matthew says: I came up with this concept while I was working on another concept. I started to play around with the logo. I cropped off the top part of the logo, and placed it basically right next to the bottom half. This gave me the inspiration of creating a design that can be easily read, while the top half of the number is sliced from the bottom half of the number.

Peter says: Since my participation in the blog I have had a few ideas for watch design inspired by cube like forms. 3D Unlimited is one of my favourite TF designs and I love the simple but cryptic looking geometry. I have often thought it would be great if it was possible to create an analogue version. “Anacube” was the result. This design also takes a few cues form the internationally recognised puzzle “Rubik” cube.

Heather says: I was playing around with radially distorted digits arranged within a circular display. By using the sectors of the display to the right and left, the time creates a silhouette that is reminiscent of a butterfly, so I call this concept Monarch.

Patrick says: Often my friends tell me that at Tokyoflash watches are very beautiful, but they are complicated to decipher. So for once (the exception proves the rule), I reflected on a watch very easy to read, so that as many can benefit from advanced technology and unique know-how of the team Tokyoflash.

Sam says: t³ stands for tactile triangle time. The t³ is also a hint for the third dimension that this watch concept takes advantage of. I like watches and concepts with a tactile interface and really liked to make my own.

Peter says: I was being dragged around the shops by my better half over the xmas period and saw some very nice modern xmas tree globes which were made from a single strip of metal formed into a sphere, they looked like a peeled orange for want of a better description. Read the rest of this entry »
