Heather says: I was thinking about how I could make a flat LED display appear 3D, and it occurred to me that I could give the appearance of a sphere by using some curved lines. Then I broke up some of these lines asymmetrically to form four digits, each comprised of 5 rows of 3 dashes.

Peter says: This is “QuadOrbium” The watch is loosely inspired by the humble bicycle combination lock.
The gyneric format of the inspiration tends to consist of four discs with numbers printed on them that your scroll untill the correct combination of numbers are displayed and the lock can be disengaged.

Peter says: Traditional wrist watches tend to tell the time in a very 2D format, I am fascinated by the idea of using 3D to tell the time. I decided to use a sphere as it is about as 3D as it gets, also a sphere is omni-directional which lends it self to telling the time using more than one axis. Read the rest of this entry »
