Peter says: I really have a fondness for LED watches and the sense of depth and mystery the displays can give you. LCD or TFT rely on the graphics or shapes of the blocks to create a feeling of depth. The trouble with deep looking displays is they tend to make for a deep watch which isn’t always appealing to all.

Sam says: The inspiration for ZIPR came a long time ago when I was working on a hexagon binary watch concept that used transparent plastic blades to guide LED light. I thought about segmentation and interlocking back then but I forgot about the idea until recently.

These Implants however required constant monitoring so the every individual that has a implant/s has a Surge monitor  (wristwatch) to monitor it power levels. Surge Is based on Iron Man’s Chest ARC reactor that sends surges of Arc energy to power his Robotic armour.

Peter says: I had an image in my head for a semi-organic shaped watch with a narrow LED display. The image had a alien robot kind of look which was industrial but not too aggressive in its language. ”Insular” was the outcome.

This design is inspired by those things to achieve an bio-mechanical look. Peter says: From the beginning of my involvement with this blog I have had a fascination with trying to show the time in 3D. One of my early design that did this was called “Rotor” which had an analogue watch hand that showed the minutes like a conventional analogue watch but the hours were shown in the vertical plane. This works and makes for an interesting concept, trouble is of course that this makes for a clunky form and would be difficult to make.
