Matthew says: I came up with this unique design just a few days ago while I was bored, and looking at the blank lines on my piece of paper. I thought that I could incorporate these lines into a way to tell time.

Sam says: KAKU is a 12-5-9 concept that uses kanji with different stroke counts instead of numbers. The inspiration came when looking up a kanji in a dictionary. The kanji were sorted by components, reading and also the amount of stokes, that are required to write them.

Peter says: This is “Digital Warp” an always on LCD watch. This design just came from an image that popped into my head. The image was digits that were distorted around a circle “warped” if you like. So I just made four digits concentric wrapped around each other as if they were being sucked into a black hole in the centre of the display.

Heather & Matthew say: The original idea was to put the digits into four quadrants, cutting each digit off down the middle and along the edges of the case in such a way that you can still determine what the digit would be.

Sam says: FRAME is a concept that uses vertically and horizontally split numbers. The fragments are placed in a name giving frame and look pretty cryptic being far away from their counterparts.

Lloyd says: ”Streetwise” is a fun and creative LCD concept watch design that uses rows of houses, containing hidden digits, to display the time.

Lisa says: I wanted something that looked like a crazy future bracelet and not at all like a watch. Does it also tell the weather in space? Communicate with the mothership? People just seeing it on my wrist will never know! The smooth around-the-wrist design makes it look futuristic and not like a watch.

Sam says: XtalV is a variation of my Xtal concept that also used hexagon based numbers. This time I arranged them vertically and so the display looks even more cryptic, like an alien inscription.

Sam says: Searching for a cryptic but at the same time simple way to tell the time, I came up with horizontal lines, that seem elevated whenever a number has to be shown.

Pawel says: The quad watch was my first submission to the blog. Surprised by the positive feedback of the community I decided to develop the idea further creating quad². The objective was to design a minimalistic display that shows time in a un-obvious fashion but is easy to read if you know how. (original concept here)

Heather says: I was thinking about how I could make a flat LED display appear 3D, and it occurred to me that I could give the appearance of a sphere by using some curved lines. Then I broke up some of these lines asymmetrically to form four digits, each comprised of 5 rows of 3 dashes.

Laszlo says: The Sonar watch is an analog-binary hybrid concept where the hours indicated in usual place and the minutes indicated in binary format. Power on your brain, think in binary and read the time quickly. Give me 0101 stars and share this with your friends!
