Retro Computer Games Inspired LCD Watch

The following LCD Analogue / Binary Hybrid watch design concept is based on the Retro Computer Game: Asteroids. Where A space craft in the centre of the screen shoot laser blasts at asteroid floating through Space in order to break them up / destroy them. Matt says: I wanted to make an analog-digital watch. I choose digital hour and analog minute and second. I choose to go with seven segments for the hour. There are six 1-hour lights and one +6 hours light at 12 o’clock. I realized that I could do a 24 hours version. In the end, I choose to combine them to do one submission. (English) Overlapped analogue watch creates transparent time.

Laszlo says: This design is a conventional, easy to read, analog movement watch.

The watch’s hands is made for translucent material. Time telling is completely straight forward analogue. The biggest square is the hour hand, the medium-sized is the minutes and the most narrow square is the second hand. With constantly changing patterns shows the time without the need to press any button.

(English) Turbofan Mechanical watch with armour plated blades!

Peter says: This is “Turbofan” a remake of an earlier design called “Fan”.

The face of the watch is inspired by the blades of a fan. This inspiration makes for a technical looking dial that kind of looks like armour plating that constantly animates with the movement of the hands.

Sam Says: The inspiration for this watch comes from a cylinder watch I made years ago from a normal battery clockwork. I wanted to make an analog wrist watch which shows the time on the outer edge of the case, not on the top.

Simple LCD Watch Concept

The time reading is very easy on this one hand watch.  Similar to an analogue watch, the twelve big segments in the middle of the screen indicate the hour, smaller sixy segments indicate minutes, and the last segment shows seconds.

I didn’t have a specific image in mind but the watch evolved into something that resembles a cross between the “Tripods” of “the war of the world” films, the little spacecraft/aliens from “batteries not included” and a mechanised turret.
