December 23rd, 2011
eobot_1

(English)

Design submitted by Lloyd from Australia.

Lloyd says: This watch design is called “EOBOT” and was inspired by the robot I had as a kid and those that appeared in classic sci-fi movies like the The Day The Earth Stood Still and Forbidden Planet. It’s called “EOBOT” because the display uses different coloured lights to indicate even (E) and odd (O) digits and the pattern of lights together with a circular head forms the shape of a robot.

(English)

Design submitted by Sam from Germany.

Sam says: “I combined two ideas I had into this watch. The first idea came from the backlight of a car. I had this idea about the same time when I made my go-stop watch. Here again, I am using white light and cover it with colored plastic. And this is where my second idea comes in: I wanted the plastic covers to be replaceable, so everyone can create an own color layout. Read the rest of this entry »

Radu says: “The idea for this watch design came to me when I saw some Christmas lights in a department store being reflected between a glass display case and a mirror. I have wanted for some time to submit a design to the Tokyoflash Design Studio Blog but nothing original enough occurred to me so this was a stroke of good luck.

(English)

Design submitted by Lloyd from Australia.

Lloyd says: “This watch design is based on one of my puzzle ideas and, although it looks baffling initially, is actually incredibly easy to understand. It is called “Domino FX” because of the 4 domino-like figures in the display. However, these are not really dominoes, but digital 8s with up to 7 spots arranged inside each.

(English)

Design submitted by Peter from the UK.

Peter says: “I was driving in my car and I noticed a trend with modern cars to have strip LED tail lights and running lights (halo style lights). This got me thinking about digits being displayed in thin strip light shapes. I then imagined these forms extruded and metallic and ended up with this watch design. Read the rest of this entry »

Mechanical Watch Design Turns Time Forward

December 8th, 2011
mechanical_watch_design_turns_time_forward_preview

(English)

Design submitted by Laszlo from Hungary.

This mechanical watch design would require a large case and a reliable locking mechanism to ensure the cylinders lock on to the correct time. Three cylinders would rotate to reveal the time by digits (hours, 10 minute group and single minutes). A steampunkesque concept that would look incredible on your wrist.
