Peter says: Christmas is always a time of inspiration, for some its a time for religious inspiration, for others it might be a time of inspiration to spend more time with friends and family. For me being a watch designing geek I find it a source of inspiration for a concept. In this case the focus of inspiration was a star shaped christmas tree decoration. The points of which were 3d and faceted. This form inspired the display of this design, aptly name “Dark Star”

They are still amazing that they are simple enough for children to be able to make reasonable models of them, yet then can be quite elaborate at times and all can be very accurate. A subtle smart watch design that uses a circular display matrix to display the time & simple text messages & notification icons. The watch informs you of new emails, social chat (such as Skype or Facebook) as well as remaining you of calendar events & missed phone calls. You can also control your music while you are jogging by skipping tracks or pausing etc. The time is displayed in the bottom half of the watch face as regular digits.

The unassuming shape of the watch makes it easy for anyone to wear, but the tunnel-like display adds a touch of uniqueness.

Peter says: As blog regulars know I have a thing for industrial and mechanical designs. Im also a bit of a film buff and gamer and like futuristic cars and planes that often feature.

This design I guess is inspired by futuristic planes from film and games and has a little DNA from earlier designs like “hunter killer” and “drone”.  This design is called “vtol” (vertical take off and landing) and features two jet engine like displays.

(English) ‘Deflection’ analog watch uses optical distortion to tell the time

Peter says: Back in August 2012 I submitted a design called “Grid” which displayed the time in a very simple analogue format using a projected grid onto slightly 3D looking hands or discs. This gave the watch a retro futuristic look but would have been tricky to make due to the projection element.

This design called “Deflection” gets around this issue but retains the retro futuristic look.
