Patrick says: Receiving the promotion of “Spider Acetate White LCD Watch,” it reminded me of the uniqueness of this watch “see through time.”

The “Crystal Watch” Transparent LCD is easy to read.

There are two buttons of activation, to program the various functions and the other to validate the programming. Displays the time and date – 12/24 hour mode – LCD “always on” display – White LED backlighting (for night time only).

The “Crystal Watch” is for women and men “geeks”.

The “Crystal Watch” by its transparent body and ease of reading “always on”, appeal to a large number of followers enthusiasts of new technologies.

  1. A transparent watch with wrap-around screen like this would be awesome.
    The curved LCD presents a problem. Although curved LCD may not be impossible, it would be difficult & expensive.

    There might be creative ways to get around that – for one.. Imagine a clear flexible circuit board with LEDs mounted on it. There would need to be circuit paths on the sheet for the LED & they would be visible – but the right design could embrace that for a more ‘cyborg’ feeling.

      I suspected that this project would require a lot of technology, but to move forward, we need to dream about the future and I wanted to enjoy myself. And Tokyoflash has made ​​the “Spider LCD Watch”, so why not make the “Crystal LCD watch”?

  3. Nice design, it’d look great but not sure it would be able to stand up to direct sunlight or very bright daytime light. I could be wrong. Either way though, looks very futuristic and sleek. Could see this being a big hit with ladies.

    Not one I’d personally go for, as I don’t think a hairy wrist works with a transparent watch, but I’m sure it would be very popular if it was possible to make it. TF are obviously interested.

    Sleek and lovely, that’s for sure… Reminds me a little of one of my old (old) submissions, but that only had a semi-transparent case and strap, not a transparent display.

    This is much prettier and looks [mild expletive] cool. I just hope it’d be possible to cram batteries and circuits into the strap, but as they say; ‘if there’s a will there’s a way’.

    Nice to see TF chiming in on a design as well, that can only be a good thing. =)

    The comment about circuits gave me an idea for an alternative display; dual digits made up of inner circles and outer rings (with the aforementioned circuit paths, as thin as possible), possibly the rings and circles are different colours. Two of those dual digits above each other would make four in total, make the digits larger (thus possibly easier to read in sunlight etc) and the circuit paths would give it a PCB-y feel… Anyway, just thought I’d throw it out there as a talking point…

      • Actually, it was an idea for this watch…=) Not content with having too much to do myself, I try to give everyone else work as well. However, I might do something with it once I’ve worked through my backlog. A co-op perhaps? =) Your work gave me the idea after all…

  7. I think it’s possible in some way. Maybe not in a fully transparent way. I’ve seen such LEDs in glass stairs, I just couldn’t get a watch idea out of it ^^ The numbers are cute.

    Anders, I think your “Silcon Watch” looks more realistic – transparent with circuits.
    Keiron (Kieron) had a binary approach to this technology. Also worth looking at his “Ultra Minimal Watch Design”

    Here we have a sleek idealistic and very stylish concept that gets my vote 🙂 Good luck!

  10. Nice looking work as always Patrick!
    I would have thought that the majority of the electronics could be in the strap (non-transparent, I did something along these lines ages ago) then if the display is LCD (like spider) there is no need for any electronics to be seen. If there was a need for electronics nearer the display area you could have a minimal visible electronics like TF suggest or a narrow visible “bridge” maybe on one side in chrome that could house the electronics. The watch would maintain the feel of the visuals here but be much easier to make (large assumption made 😉 ) Anyways technical babble out the way, nice work Patrick 5/Y 😀

  11. I think this can be done by use of refraction, as I’ve seen on Sony TV bezels:

    You could hide the actual LEDs/boards inside the left and right edges, facing each other, with the ‘fake’ LEDs represented by rectanglular reflective surfaces, angled 45 degrees. There would be absolutely no circuits visible, and the LEDs would appear to float. I would buy!!

      • Hehehe, I’ve actually got a submission on the go that uses reflections. Not quite like this, but it might sate the appetite in the meantime…=) Don’t hold your breath, though; it’s not submitted yet…

      This process is used in fighter aircraft since 1970, his name display “head up display (HUD)”, I did a project on it, there are several years, but never published.

  12. A very impressive minimalist wristwatch concept. Although a curved transparent LCD screen may not be possible Yet this would make an excellent skeleton watch providing the circuit board patterns are sympathetic to the overall style & concept of the Design. Great work & good luck.

  21. I like the futuristic look. The “cyborg” look suggested by TF could be interesting. There’s a lot of skeleton mechanical watches but not much skeleton electronic watches. I like the dice/domino dots digits. I like the “1”.
