Stream LED smart watch links up with your social life.

Design submitted by Heather from the the USA & Sam from Germany.

Heather & Sam say: The STREAM is an LED smart watch that combines futuristic time telling with a stylish look.

The watch is made of a matte back material and has soft straps. There is this glossy black cut running all around the watch, representing the stream. It crosses the display area diagonally, dividing it in two halves.

On the left half we find the hours in time telling mode, while the minutes are on the right side of the stream. The numbers look like the traditional 7-segment numbers we all know, adapted to the trapezoid shapes of each display half. But the numbers don’t have a horizontal center segment.  The space inside each number is used for the notification icons.  The stream shows a flashing time indicator on the bottom. It can also show a date and an alarm indicator if the corresponding information is shown. On the top of the stream an abstract letter p could appear, indicating pm in 12h mode. This is especially useful when setting the time or alarm.

Each notification icon is a letter or an exclamation mark next to 0-3 counters. Once there is something happening, the watch vibrates and the appropriate icon flashes.

The stream also encases all LEDs used for the smart actions. The LEDs at the bottom of the stream that were used to indicate time/date/alarm work together as animated ringer icon. The media player icon is a music note in the same tilted and edgy style as all the other LEDs. The media player controls follow the style. All media player icons are concentrated in the middle of the stream. The social check-in icon reuses the ìvolume downî media control icon and looks like a check mark.  The top of the stream is used for the camera (an abstract camera), Bluetooth (an abstract b) and find phone (an abstract ?) icons while some LEDs get reused for the different icons.  When Bluetooth or ringer is selected, the ìvolume upî and ìvolume downî media controls are reused to indicate ON and OFF respectively.

The display is a well organized layout of LEDs that uses minimal space without forgetting the style.

Nice concept! I like its features and the way you propose to read them. That’s definitely a watch that makes you always connected. Clever.

  3. avatar Peter says:

Quite futuristic design… love it :)

  4. avatar Pete says:

Nice looking modern design and funky digits to boot! I like the fact that when you aren’t receiving notifications, calls etc it doesn’t look like a “conventional” smart watch. Nice work guys! Nice to see Heathers influence back on the blog! ;) 5/Y Best of luck peeps! :D

Oh yeah, there has to be a non-smart smexiness with Tokyoflash watches. It’s not all about function (design students punch their screens now hehe). Thank you for the input Peter!

Nice collab, I can see the hand of each designer. Two-tone black would look great in person, I think.

The alignment of the displays on the two halves is unusual, not sure how I feel about it.

Love the look of this watch and great to see a collab! I’m not a big fan of the whole smart-phone/ watch concept. I’d be tempted to buy this if it was just a watch! Good luck! 5y

    • avatar Samukun says:

Yep, I do understand the mere-watch-attitude. It’s cool when a watch still has a justification if being taken away all the extra functions :) Thanks for your support DZ!

Hi Heather and Sam, I am a bit like dzign555, smartphone watches exist in number and it will still come out in 2014. Watches / unique gadgets, it is more rare.
5 * / Yes, for the always impeccable work.

    • avatar Samukun says:

Merci bien monsieur. I agree with you. Tokyoflash partially have to swim with the mainstream but they can also make their own rules. Let’s see what the future brings ;)

TF seems to be showing a lot of smartwatch designs at the moment. The great thing about this one is that those of us who don’t want smartwatches can still go for it and get a great watch – the “non smart” displays are great on their own. Only disadvantage would be that we would be paying for unwanted features. I love the numbers and would definitely want this watch. Good luck and I hope it gets produced. 5*/Y

    • avatar Samukun says:

Totally agreeing with you. Maybe there can be a smart and non-smart version?! Woah, nice idea. Thank you for the input and the support Nev!

Nice job Heather & Sam!! I’m not much for Smart-watches, but I definitely love the design of it!
(Thought maybe you dropped off the face of the earth Heather! Missing your input on the Blog!)

  10. avatar mushy says:

It’s very nicely presented as usual. I just wish the numbers were a bit more original or cryptic. They fit with the design well tho. :)

    • avatar Samukun says:

Your eyes are already spoiled by cryptic things sir so they aren’t be easily surprised ;) But cool that you can still smile now. Thank you for the comment Lloyd!

  11. avatar Alison Hart says:

Such a shame the customer service is non existant with these watches. My watch is faulty and no one will answer my emails – really unprofessional and i will never recommend this company. How hard is it to give the minimum level of politeness? disappointed. Tokoyo Flash – please get in touch.

  12. avatar cecil la roche says:

This concept was interesting enough before I read that it was a smart watch. I would definitely buy this in the white led. 5*/Y

  13. avatar Makkovik says:

I like the design. It’s very futuristic ! It’s probably the 1st smart watch feature here that I like. I would buy.

  14. avatar Topsider says:

4.9 out of 5 based on 201 ratings!

TF, now you know what’s your job!

    • avatar Samukun says:

Hehe yeah ;) You have to be cautious with the ratings though – they can be manipulated. The 100+ facebook likes on the other hand seem to be correct (unless someone’s spamming his account with likes, if double likes even count). in any case this watch is up here now for later review and consideration :D thanks for the hint Top!
