Grille Designed LED Watch

Design submitted by Peter from UK.

Peter says: This is “Induction” an evolution of an earlier design of mine called “Vent”.Β  The basic premis with Vent was that the main part of the face of the watch featured a louvered grille that framed an LED array. The grille not only offered the display some shade from direct light but also dictated that the time be read from a specific angle. This design uses a similar louvered grille form but in this case actually uses it as the display itself.

This design displays the time using LEDs through a louvered grille shaped lens in a 12/5/9 format. The hours are displayed by the rectagular grille in the centre of the watch. The 5 x 10mins are displayed by the left hand grille and the 9 x single minutes by the grille on the right. This format could also describe the date and alarm features. There are three small LEDs below the hours to highlight am/pm, date and alarm on.

This design like a lot of my submissions is on the futuristic/industrial side of things so probably will mostly apeal to the chaps. That said the proportions should be small enough for adventureous ladies too. This design should appeal to sci-fi lovers aswell as people who like industrial products.

The grille shaped display lens and unusual form of the watch should seperate it from others.

  1. Very nice renders as per usual Pete…=) I like the overall look, nice and clean. It doesn’t quite grab me, however. I don’t know why, maybe the time telling is a bit too straightforward for my taste… But I’m sure it appeals to a lot of people, not everyone is like me after all (thank god)…=) Best of luck!

    • haha fair comment sir, we can please all people all the time! And if we did that probably means we have all been mind wiped at some point. Yeah the time telling is very straight forward, maybe this design will suit other time telling styles too. Cheers for the feedback! πŸ˜€

  2. Man, do I want that watch like yesterday! I’d like to see the possibility of different colour digits, and an LCD version.

    Cool! 5y

      • I did a couple of colour varients, ideally the colour of the LEDs could be changeable like Adjust. An LCD version would also work I think. The Lens would need to be more transparent but thats no problem. Cheers for the feedback and the support! πŸ˜€

  3. Cool how the grill would look on my wrist πŸ˜€ I like this detail and how you use the translucent plastic for the LEDs. Very futuristic looking. Offering an alternative reading mode is wise. The time could appear with a cool animation of course. The two colors LEDs watch for me please! Good luck!!

  4. The first picture is an awesome rendering! Not sure if this “looking from a specific angle” stuff would really work as intended, but it looks great.

    • The original “Vent” design I mentioned in the text required the wearer to look at the watch from a specific angle because the grille in that case framed the display. This one could be looked at from any angle (within reason) because the grille is part of the display. Cheers for liking the images! πŸ˜€

  5. Well… once again a nice design from you, Pete. It’s straightforward, yes… but so what? – I must admit that I really like it. Best of luck to you.

  6. It looks very nice Pete, but I just wish the numbers were a bit more interesting. Anyway, I gave you 5Y. πŸ˜‰ Same comment and score for your other design.

  7. The overall design is appealing. I don’t really like standard digits as it makes it too easy to read, but with the split minutes and the two colour version, this wins me over. Alternative time telling increases the appeal. Good luck, Pete.

    • Cool feedback Nev! There are probably more time telling methods that could be used with this layout. I think there is scope for development. Cheers for the support sir! πŸ˜€

  8. I like the overall look. I also like industrial/sci-fi looking watches. I like that the minutes digits are divided by the hour & indicator. I like how the top of the minutes are done. I prefer the black & silver version because the LED’s stand out more. ( the 3rd & 4th pics ) A black & red with red lights would be cool! ( more sport looking. & add a bit of yellow for a … ? )

An LCD version would be nice. I prefer this one vs the vent.

  9. Time is short for the concept too, so a big thanks goes out to everyone who took the time to support this design!
Thanks to TF for adding it here!
