Lloyd says: In this LCD concept watch design, called “Orbiter”, the time is conveyed by space debris in orbit around a silver disc representing the Earth.

The time and date are easy to read. Six identical satellites in various states of disrepair form six slightly disguised but easily discernible digits.

For added fun there’s an animation showing a solitary satellite orbiting the Earth which you can either initiate by touching a button or set to play every 5, 10 or 15 minutes. To avoid missing it, you can choose the sound of a bleeping satellite signal to play at the same time.

This watch has an alarm with a choice of different space-related sounds. It is USB rechargeable via a computer and has an EL backlight which makes the display easier to read at night. It also has a GPS tracker so your family and friends can check your location on their computers if, for example, you go hiking or travelling. Of course, if you don’t want them to know, you can turn this feature off. The watch’s case and strap are made from stainless steel and are shown in either black or silver, but other colours are possible too. The LCD display is also shown in different colours and is “always on”.

This design would probably appeal to anyone who loves quirky modern gadgets, sci-fi, space, astronomy, science, hiking, travelling, creativity and thinking “outside the box”.

It stands out because of its unique and eye-catching display.

  7. Somebody already beat me to the “out of this world” comment, so I’ll have to say thanks for putting this concept into orbit, especially with the GPS tracker. I hope it eventually reaches the launchpad.

  9. I like the way the middle segments are done. I like the digits positioning, even if, at the beginning, I thought it was clockwise & starting at 12 o’clock (it would have been bad)

    However, I wouldn’t buy.
