Digicube Watch Design – Digital Time Through Cubes

Design submitted by Lloyd from Australia.

Lloyd says: “Digicube is an LCD concept watch that displays the time and date in an enigmatic way, using a seemingly confusing array of floating cubes.

Reading the time or date, however, is surprisingly easy. Just pay attention to the ‘dark’ sides of the cubes and you’ll see that they form 4 digits made up of 7 segments. There’s also a “quick reveal” mode enabling you to display only the digits.

Digicube has an alarm mode and is USB rechargeable via a computer. It also has an EL backlight which makes the display easier to read at night. The watch’s case and strap are made from stainless steel and are shown in various combinations of black and silver, but other colours are possible too. The LCD display is also available in different colours and is “always on”.

This design would probably appeal to anyone who likes quirky modern gadgets, games, puzzles, art, creativity and thinking “outside the box”. It stands out because of its unique and easy-to-read cryptic display.”

  1. Wow Lloyd, this is really good!! So very clever :° I think the digits should touch each other.. well the digit forming cubes. Separating the digits makes the display look a bit too empty. The dividing cross helps a bit though. Good luck Lloyd for this and quite some other concepts of yours!!

  2. For once I tried to figure the time out without reading the description as usually that never works and…. success!!!! The time literally popped out at me after about 3 seconds of staring at the first image, very clever way of hiding the time. 5/Y

  3. hey, lloyd. i agree with Sam, Patrick, and Laszlo about the empty space, but the digits are very cool. they’re very easy to read, and i certainly don’t need any kind of reveal. very clever, as usual. 🙂 5*

  4. Hmm…. I like the idea, the basic is very impressive, but I think you can use this idea to make more unique design, I mean, a watch design in a package; the display, and strap. I have something interesting in mind about this design but I believe the renders are what you really intended and I respect your idea as it is. So good luck with it.

  5. The idea to have one side of the cube bolder is nice but I don’t like the display overall look. The reveal mode seem useless. I would pass.

    • No worries Makko. 🙂 I added the reveal because some people might not get the concept otherwise. If I didn’t put the reveal on here, people would ask why I hadn’t. hehe It probably wouldn’t have a reveal mode if it were made. Don’t forget these are only concepts designs on the blog.
