Peter says: This is “Digital Warp” an always on LCD watch. This design just came from an image that popped into my head. The image was digits that were distorted around a circle “warped” if you like. So I just made four digits concentric wrapped around each other as if they were being sucked into a black hole in the centre of the display.

The time is told by four concentric digits which wrap around the center of the display. The digits are read from outside in. The outer two digits describe hours or days, and the center two diplay the minutes or months.

This design is incredibly simple and should appeal to those who belive in the expression “keep it simple…stupid!”  the digits are hidden in plian view and look cryptic to those unfamilier with it, but will be clear as day to the initiated.

This design stands out due to its simple time telling method and being viable from production perspective.

  6. super idea. i think it’s pretty tokyoflashy, when I look at their productions of the last year. super cryptic at first but once you know what you see and there to look to get the info, it’s super simple. awesome numbers indeed. super simple to make. crossing fingers. 5*/YES

  8. i love the idea – the digits are great – really outside the box. i’m just concerned that for me, it would take me too long to read the time. 5* anyway. 🙂

    • I think it is something that after a short period you would recognise the numbers at a glance, without the need to “look” for them (easily said I know 😉 ) The spacing could also be easily increased if clarity needed improving too which might help.     Great to see a design with LCD = always on.

    Since I like to see my watches live and move, a humble suggestion:
    Show minutes and seconds and let the space between start/end of the digits point at the hour.
    Perhaps it will be more difficult to read the exact time since you have to read the digits at an angle (or upside-down), but it will give you a rough hint about time of the day.

  11. What a cool design for the digits, Pete! Not sure if I like the 9 reading different than an inverted 6, but I think this is awesome. Have you considered rotating digits to different angles?

    • Hi Xian, yeah in retrospect I should have taken a line out of the 6 to make it more obviously different compared to the 5 and more like a inverted 6 like you say.
      Did you see the link above I added to Jens’s comment? In reference to his feedback I used one end of the numbers to highlight the hours in an analogue style, the top two numbers describe the minutes and the bottom two the seconds. I think this concept would allow a few different time telling styles using the warped numbers. Cheers for the great feedback and support Xian! 😀
